Replacing a Zeiss Ikon with a Leica M3

Thanks everyone. I'm very happy. Yes, John (i.e., Finglas), I did thank her here. After I wrote all of that, I sent her direct links to Rob's post and mine from 2005 and the one here so she could read what I said. She liked what I wrote.

I just wanted to send a quick congrats to you, Russell, that's a wonderful story. Such a generous gesture by your friend -- it may be extremely difficult for her to begin to understand how grateful you truly are.

Regarding the cameras, I have a ZI as well as a single-stroke M3. As people have already mentioned, the ZI is noticeably lighter and has all the mod-cons you stated earlier. But there is a tactile enjoyment with the M3 that I don't get from other cameras. And when I shoot the M3 I have to put my thinking cap on. I enjoy the challenge of reading light and guesstimating exposures.

Anyway, enjoy your cameras, we look forward to seeing the results! 🙂

Congrats Russell. Enjoy the M3. I'm pretty sure that is why you have it because your friend knew you would use it.

Unfortunately the only film cameras my friends have are Kodak Disc Cameras. 🙂

I've never read a nicer thread. You were being helpful and fair, and she responded with great generosity. What goes around comes around – this time in the right direction.
