Replacing an old Holga...

Not really an answer to the OP...

If the LC-A 120 interest you, but (like me) the cost and reliability issues keep you from getting one, a great alternative is a Lomo Diana with the optional 38mm lens. More expensive but much better built than a Holga, but way less expensive and more reliable than the LC-A 120.
Surprisingly good results too...

The Holga is a very good tool for film photographers.
Even though, I suppose anyone can get a simulated Holga look with PP these days (or hipstamatic app which I actually like).
Simulations in post lose the charm of surrender the Holga requires from users.... Not wanting to choose a look later is one reason to use it.
It gives you what it gives you and that's it!

This will be the 3rd one for me... the other 2 having been used until worn out or malfunctioning.
With other cameras in the kit, I don't see a need to own more than one but, I do always have one loaded with film.

do you recall how many rolls have you gone with yours before malfunctioning?
have a Holga 120 GFN that I bought for fun but have barely used it, didn't know it has been discontinued and tough to find now.
i've probably put about max 5 rolls on mine, my goal with it now is to use 35mm to shoot long-exposure panoramic shots (bought the adapter for trigger)

This one that is sickly was bought here from Sug in 2010.... it’s been great!
I’ve put about 1 1/2 rolls per month through since then.
The biggest issue is the shutter return spring malfunctioning.
The shutter lever I can get moving ok again just not for long..... at least it’s external.
When the shutter is stuck or stuck open with film in.... it’s done until The darkbag is handy.

unfortunate, if Bulb mode was still usable on yours I would be willing to swap with you.
let me check The Camera Store to see if they have a GFN in stock, did see a couple while in Asia, was tempted to grab a spare for myself but did not have luggage space.
 
Why not something like an Agfa Clack? Very similar in concept to the Holga, one shutter speed, no focusing, makes 6x9 negatives, and cheap. But they're much better made, so that may be a pro or con depending on what you're looking for. The other feature is the curved film path which counteracts some of the field curvature of the lens.

Thanks for the thought. I'm would not feel comfortable trading this one.
I'll find one.... there are plenty out there.

Freestyle has a 120GFCN. Same model with Colorflash. I'll order one. One extra letter won't add much weight 😛

I bought two Holgas. One TLR.... thanks for recommending it 🙂
I've put 2 rolls through the TLR so far.
One really does not to hold it at waist level to see the image. That works good for me.
I also picked up a GCFN for eye level which I used yesterday for a couple rolls.
Loving the Holgas. I think this might be the year of the holga for me...there is an added sense of anticipation with these cameras that makes them more compelling to use in some way.... I expose more prolifically.
Hopefully that will occasionally be a good thing 😱
