I have a screw mount lens that, I think, has developed a fungus problem. The rear element appears hazy/fogged and the lens flares under almost any condition.

I'd rather have it fixed locally - or rather - not have to send it across the globe. Do any of our other Japan-based members have any recommendations? Thanks.

Cheers,

The only service I have been in contact with is Kanto Camera Service [1] and
they currently have two of my lenses in for an overhaul. From what I
understand, they are not cheap, but you can get a quote by going there and also
the chance to have a look at their inventory and lens/camera design
collection [2]. The quote will also contain an overall statement about other
problems the lens may have.

You could try Yamazaki Optical based near Shinjuku. I've heard from several people that Yamazaki-San's prices are reasonable, he works fast, and can perform miracles to bring older lenses back to life. He's a straight shooter too - I called him once to ask about cleaning hazy Canon LTM lenses and he told me its a waste of money and not to bother as due to the type of glass Canon used they'd just haze up again anyway after cleaning. I don't think he speaks English though, so be prepared to talk with him in Japanese.

A bit far from Tokyo, but I can recommend Tac Camera in Sapporo.

My M3 was somehow fogging the film a bit and I thought the shutter curtains needed to be replaced. I stopped by Tac and within a few minutes they identified it was just a baffle that needed to be replaced. They expedited the repair and I had my refreshed M3 back in my hands in a few days. They even cleaned the finder and adjusted shutter speeds at no charge.

Thanks for the responses. I might give Yamazaki a call first. I have Leica taste, but a Yashica pocketbook.
