Request for help: Skopar 35mm f2.5

Hello all,

My Skopar has quite a lot of play in the front segment. I guess I'll need to get inside to tighten a screw. Searching through the forums, I've seen references to a thread with advice on how to do this - but I can't find the thread itself.

Can any kind soul help?

On which camera? It would depend a whole lot on what it is mounted in. Are we talking about an old Voigtlander Avus or a new camera?

I assumed the OP was referring to a newer CV lens.

Indeed. The newer CV it is. I think this is a documented issue that develops with some of these lenses, although hardly a common fault. I know there's at least one user here who has corrected the problem, but can't remember who - else I'd send them a PM.

If it's the PII, try to tighten this ring. You might need to buy a spanner.

Thanks for taking the time to add the picture, Ferider. It's the 'classic':

so, no obvious way of applying pressure to this ring (no 'tooth').

Sorry to be vague in the original post - I forgot how many different iterations of this lens there have been.

In general I am very happy with the CV lenses, except for the build on this one... I have the same problem, and it unscrews every time I keep it in a bag on the move. Recently the front name-plate also fell off!

I will consider locking it somehow, the way it is now is really ridiculous. Which is a pity for such a small and otherwise great lens!

Maybe a touch of Permatex blue or Loc-Tite blue threadlocker?

What do you mean by "tooth?" If you are referring to the notches in retaining rings, the traditional way of removing notchless rings is with a friction wrench.

Edit: A friction wrench is pretty much a piece of dental dam material, or soft rubber sheet, wrapped around a disk of wood. Those rubber "feet" sold in hardware stores to cover the ends of furniture legs work well too, if they are the right size. You just push it against the ring and turn.

FallisPhoto - thanks for the suggestion of the friction wrench. I'll try it when I can get together the proper materials. My lens isn't by any means unusable: the play isn't forwards and backwards (yet).

It sounds to me like aniMal has a different issue with his lens to me. Sounds like he's talking about the hood - I might be wrong.

I too am disappointed with the build quality.

My example has various wobbly bits, refuses to focus to infinity, and the focusing tab has broken off...

My nokton 50mm is solid though.
