Hello folks.

I've recent set up a new personal portfolio website:
http://www.sockeyedphoto.com/

I've been using flickr for years, but I wanted something more restrained, pared-down and attractive to refer people to. I used the Zenfolio service to set this site up and appreciate how easy it was to use. It is fairly customizable, although I could use a bit more control over things like fonts and layout. Updating is a breeze. The slideshow feature is one of the best I've seen on-line

I would really appreciate any feedback people can offer on the site itself, the organization, the look, the amount and selection of images I've included, and so on. Thank you kindly in advance.

For me it does not seem to function correctly, initiating the
slide show with selection of any image for viewing. Other
than that, I think layout, format, and appearance is good.

You have some exceptional images on there. Exceptional images deserve an exceptionally good portfolio as well. If I were you I'd pay someone to set up an actual web page for you and your portfolio.

Ben, your website is very organized and simple. I like the fact that no camera/lens/film/etc. info is listed. IMO the pictures you've selected are a good representation of your work (I've seen your Flickr photos).

If you don't mind me asking, is there any cost to set up a website like this through Zenfolio? I've about given up trying to have both casual photos and a "portfolio" on my Flickr page. This looks like a good alternative.

The only minor detail that is distracting for me is that the "gallery" folder looks different than the other folder.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your input, Chris, Gavin and Martini!

Martini - can you tell me what web browser you're using? For me it works well on IE and Firefox, but I haven't tried anything else.

Gavin - thanks for your kind words. I would like to get my own webpage designed, but I struggled a bit finding someone here who was interested in doing something simple and affordable. I'm not locked into my current setup for more than a year, so I should really start looking for a designer.

Chris - Zenfolio has a variety of pricing structures running from $40 to $100 a year. I paid the premium price to enable me to strip out Zenfolio logos and use my own URL. There are a lot of features that I'd stripped out, too, like commentary, tags and even an e-commerce function. Have a look at www.zenfolio.com. I also totally agree with you that the 'projects' folder does look different (and ugly). Unfortunately it was the only way to nest galleries to avoid a bit of clutter.

Thanks again!

@sockeyed - justin low (he hangs out in RFF as well) is a wonderful web designer and specializes in web folios if you want a professional look. but i like the zenfolio powered version as well since its something that you can manage on your own. plus it would be easier to add new work compared to a tradiotional site. nicely done!

thank you David, flessas and infrequent!

Martini - my girlfriend uses a Mac, so I'll try the site out on her computer. Thanks for the heads up.

np on my leo mac. Nice pictures. Makes me even more wanting to visit asia again. I find the MAG girl pictures quite touchy. Hope they're all still doing fine.
