Retaining ring in Hassy B60 filter

I wanted to add a strong yellow filter, and maybe an orange one, to my Hasselblad bag. The only yellow filter on eBay is priced at $175.00. I have yellow and orange filters, good ones, in Series VIII. So I ordered a couple of Hasselblad brand filters in colors that are not in demand, like 80A, for just 7 or 8 bucks each. My intention is to unscrew the retaining rings with a spanner, drop out the blue filter, and drop in a series 8/63mm glass. Great idea, no?

Problem: Hasselblad doesn't put any slots in their retaining rings! No place to engage the spanner tips. It does appear to be threaded, so apparently they threaded it in when they made it. I don't see how they did.

Any suggestions?

I could just order some Tiffen used filters in B60. At least they are made to come apart. I 'd rather have the Hasselblad ones, as they are of higher quality.
Really, how could they have installed the retaining ring if there are no slots to engage the spanner tips? And how are you supposed to back them out?

Use a rubber stopper & press it against the retaining ring.
Stoppers are available from your local hardware joint, 2 1/2" at the wide end should give you enough friction.

Or do what most professionals I knew used to do in the 70s: get a Hasselblad to 52mm (Nikon) adapter... Most of us used Hasselblad and Nikon (some Mamiya, virtually no Canon) in those days, so we got double mileage out of our filters.

A Bay 60 to 52mm would be quite a significant step down - you may be thinking of the Bay 50 to 52mm, which is the set up I have on my 80mm Planar. The Bay 60 suits a 67mm ring much better.

Right. I think I have one of those adapters. That can be useful with lenses that take Bay 50; but won't help with Bay60.

I solved it. I send the problem holder back and ordered a Tiffen instead. Tiffen retaining rings have slots for the spanner.

I can't find a yellow or orange bay60 filter at KEH nor ebay. Hence the need for a DIY transplant.

I think you want Hasselblad adapter 60-63, #51638. See ebay listing 290772544355.

This is a bayonet fitting for B60, and the 63 (non-thread) filter slips inside it. Effectively it adds a B60 bayonet fitting to the 63 filter. I have one of these (for the Sonnar 150/4) and it works very well as it allows you to still use the proper hood on the outer bayonet fitting. I don't know if you can do that with the 60 > 67 adapter.

Bay 60 > 67mm filter adapter + hood works fine on my 150mm Sonnar, FWIW.
