Retina Ia test photos

I've got a Retina IIIc with slow speeds sluggish on the way. I got it cheap in part because of that issue and the distance scale is in meters. No problem there. I'll have the shutter back up and running in no time and I have a focus ring in feet that will get transplanted onto it..

When I put the camera back together, there were two things that I either forgot, or messed up on. The first one was I forgot to lock the shutter cover in place, which caused a shutter jam. The second was that since the retaining screw for the winder would bind it up if driven all the way down, I backed it off a bit until it worked. Unfortunately, it worked itself loose when the owner tried to practice firing it. This allowed the frame counter to slip, and that jammed the winder.

Both fixes were easy, and I put some blue thread locker on the retaining screw so it won't back out again, but it is removable if need be.

After dry firing the camera through a simulated ten rolls of 36 exposures, it appeared that the winder fix was holding, so I loaded it with a roll of Kodak Gold 100. I shot that in two parts, the first being at a little country cemetery that is family owned, and my neighbor's old school chum had been buried there. She wanted to visit the grave, but didn't know where the cemetery was due to some really awful instructions she got. It took a bit of sleuthing through the county real estate records to finds it's location, and another search of an online map to find out the road names leading to it.

It was a lovely day, and the cemetery is peacefully located in an out-of-the-way location on a lightly traveled gravel road. Good excuse for a ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Roanoke, VA.

I had to grab the camera and go, as when my neighbor is ready to head out, it's best not to delay her any. So I didn't bother with a hood, meter, or rangefinder.

Kodak Retina Ia Re-test Part 2

I still had two thirds of a roll left of the Kodak Gold 100, so the next morning, I got up early to catch the low sunlight down at a local park. These shots were more technical in nature, as I was making sure I tested all functions of the camera. So the subject may be boring, but they give a good indication of what the camera will do.

This time I did use the hood (Enteco Series V-A on a Kodak 1 1/16-27mm push-on adapter), but dispensed with the meter and rangefinder.
