I just finished cleaning my Retina IIa's RF mechanism and adjusting it according to Chris Sherlock's page, retinarescue.com.
The instructions are excellent in this maintenance issue that needs to be done to many Retinas. Prior to this, the RF patch on my IIa was a little dim and the edges not crisp. The camera has traveled across the country four times and has been in my camera bag regardless what format I have been shooting, so it always goes along. Either in the bag or in a hoodie/jacket pocket. That said, it was dirty.
After the cleaning, the RF s almost as good as my Leica M4. I wear glasses, so it is a little more squinty than the Leica viewfinder but as my daily carry camera, it is back and better than any time since I've owned it.
I just wanted to put a shout out for Chris and these indispensable pages on the web for taking care of the Retinas.

I've revived two Retinas with the help of Chris's repair instructions. I also emailed him with some questions and he was friendly and open. Great guy!
