I have been looking at the Retina RFs on The Auction site. The IIc appears to have a larger viewing eyepiece than the IIa. Does this indicate better eye-relief? From what I've read, the cocking rack [whatever that is] seems to be the most common problem with these cameras. Is that an expensive fix? Are there other reliability problems with the Retinas that make them frustrating or are they as nice as they look?

The cocking rack is a straight, toothed rack that is somewhat under-engineered. It can strip. However, it is still avaialable as a spare part ( I think it is manufactured by a third party) The last one I had replaced cost me about $75.

The rest of the camera is superb. This was taken with a Retina IIIc and Kodak 800 color negative film.
