I don`t blame you ... I was born in the other Lancashire town but have family in Liverpool.
Great place for photography too ...I really must pop down again this summer.

I am making the most of my stay in NYC while I can. It does seem that part of retirement is learning to adapt, and moving away for me is likely a forced move rather than choice. Once one gets caught up into the New York lifestyle it is difficult to leave. I know my days are likely numbered.

My gal is rather cosmopolitian and any move for her requires another city. I could be happy alone in some wilderness, I like the outdoors, I could get back into cycling again, fishing, and I likely have a lifetime of B&W printing ahead of me to remind me of my time in New York.

I think the real tragedy here are all the people like me who worked hard to support this city who took care of the poor and the rich all these decades having to leave. Who will pay the taxes? I like to think one of the reasons tourists come to NYC is to meet people like me. What is left when people like me leave? Already Brooklyn has become the creative capitol of NYC because Madhattan has gotten too expensive. Brooklyn is no bargain today and is rivaling Madhattan.

Wales? I rather enjoyed my time in Talybont. Aber for the "big city" experience and yes, culture with a university. (I believe Tolkien stayed there for a while). Not much of a drive to visit Liverpool (the real big city experience). And I could take a "big trip" to Dublin quite easily. The climate is definitely cool, but consistent there. with a little rain to boot 🙂

I found Wales rather photogenic. My friend doesn't seem impressed with his lovely surroundings though. He's obsessed with running and cycling, both of which seem suitable for the area (you learn to get out in the rain). My wife likes Borth, but I'm sure she couldn't live there long-term retired. Still, there's lots to photograph in those villages, and Aber has such charm....and youngsters if you can handle that.

Indeed - 'progressive' thinking is not particularly welcome in these parts.🙁 If it weren't for the fact that it's a lovely area in many other ways (in addition to it being my good lady's home turf 😉), I'd readily move elsewhere. Sadly, the majority (mercifully, not all) of the political orientation in the area is, frankly, rather nauseating.

All are at best partial interpretations but I think I can see why you might not agree immediately with partially witted analyses.

Edit: On seeing you're in Zurich, I have to add that I have two very dear friends who are Zuerchers, and that they're kind, witty, generous usw. But it is admittedly true that it is hard to get that vibe on the street in Zuerich.

How about retiring on Pelee island Frank?

Southern most part of Canada and it is a great place to photograph birds.
