reunion event - photos for me, or snapshots for the masses?

So I'm photographing a reunion thing. I was planning on doing high contrast b/w images for myself this year, sharing if any of the subjects wanted them as well.

The organizer, a friend of mine, asked me to do the group photo. The one from about 15 years ago had > 100 people in it in an inverted U, with the photographer on some lift or something with a wide angle. Our reunion will be 40ish folks, or 60ish including spouses/dates. A matching photo with numbers and a name table goes with the photo so we can remember names.

I have a feeling they might want color or digital or something. What's an artist to do?

Put your own spin on it and make it unique. It's your reunion too!
If they want specific shots in a specific medium they can hire a photographer to be a fly on the wall. While you may be the photographer in the group, don't forget to actually enjoy yourself and the event, not just being there for the images.

Simple, go with your feelings (do the digital color thing), THEN do your artist thing. It probably does not have to be an either/or situation.... Do both!

Just do your own thing If you are an artist.
Taking pictures you do not like yourself very much will not be any good!
That.s why most event and wedding pictures suck and why i always refuse to shoot pictures other people want me too.

Unless the people in the reunion are members of any photo forums my guess is they do not care what you do......
