Revisiting Canon 35mm 1.5 and 50mm 1.5 Sonnar

I am revisiting my Canon ltm 35mm 1.5, 50mm 1.5 and 85mm 1.5 lenses. There haven't been here many recent threads about these two lenses. If you own either one or both lenses, share with us here your images and experiences with them. I started yesterday by pairing up my M9 with the 35/1.5 and the M10 with the 50/1.5. They have gathered dust (on the outside) from lack of use. Here are snapshots of the lenses first.

1. Canon 35/1.5: I have not found the right lens hood for it yet, but I will have one somewhere in my photography gear closet. I don't want any vignetting.

2. Canon 50mm/1.5

I dusted them off after I took these pics of the two lenses. I also have the Canon 85mm/1.5 to complete my set of Canon ltm lenses with max aperture 1.5.

Oh Raid. I had a 35/1.5 about 25 years ago...I think I paid around $200 for it. I also had a Summaron 35/2.8 at that time. I shot maybe one or two rolls with the Canon, found it unsharp, and quickly sold it off for a small profit.

Well we grow and learn over time, there's no way around that fact. Back then I was a Leica snob and didn't have an appreciation for Canon glass. To me they were just a small step above any no-name enlarger lens, practically dollar bin items.

Partly due to your past comments on this lens (and some tests posted on the internet) I've come to the conclusion that I didn't give this lens a chance, or that perhaps there was something wrong with my copy (I think the former)

It's always nice to revisit old lenses that one hasn't used in a while, look forward to seeing your new images, Raid! 🙂 I bought a Canon 50/1.5 LTM last summer, and it quickly became one of my favorite lenses.

I also have done this! I sold off lenses that I wish I had kept. RFF members lent me many lenses for my lens comparison projects, and the Canon 35/1.5 was very well received. Ferider (Roland) liked it then. So I kept the lens.

I have hardly any images from the 50/1.5 but I started only yesterday to use this lens again.

There was a guy selling a Canon 35/1.5 lens on Photrio lately, asking $900.00. I thought about buying it, but passed. I'm sure I'll regret my decision.

You should add the Canon 85/1.5 to this thread, get the Canon F1.5 trilogy in.

I shoot the 85/1.5 more than the 50/1.5, do not have the 35/1.5.

All good lenses have much higher market values these days. The old CV lenses used to cost around $250~$300. Now they cost $850~$1100.

Try using "Thread Tools"- I think that will work,

Otherwise- just use a big font and invite pictures with the lens.

I found my 85/1.5 and I checked it out on the M10. Focusing is smooth but aperture changing is OK but not smooth as I want it. My small camera bag now has all three 1.5 Canon trio lenses in it.
