I'm a novice looking for advice... I'm on a tight budget and I want to buy an RF camera. I've been looking at lots of options and the Bessa range seems the most cost effective. I'm interested in portraits and landscapes ?

Any advice welcome

I am in sort of the same boat....
I did a lot of looking around and scored a mint M4P for $850 here, got a VL 50mm 1.5 at B+H used for $299, used hood at B+H for $50, L to M mount for $59 at B+h, used meter on e bay for $20

Got a nice case on e bay For $30... nice case here on classified as well 🙂

I am at about $1350 for a great set up !

Looked at Bessa but for a little more money got much better body to build a kit on.

A tight budget to mean means very little $$ available. In that case, a fixed lens rangefinder fits the need. A Canonet QL17 or similar. A little more money means a nice clean Bessa R and a LTM lens of your choosing. Lots more money, go with the option noted above - the Leica.

Welcome.

Not sure how tight. Probably the biggest bang for the buck is to get a Bessa R, Color Skopar 35/2.5, and (maybe later?) Heliar 75/2.5. If you shop carefully used, this will set you back around US 600-700 (US 400-450 without 75). And you can shoot anything with it.

If this doesn't fit your budget, I recommend a fixed lens RF.

Best,

Roland.
