Jon, I'm very interested too, but since my participation depends on my work load as well as my access to photo books (usually by inter-library loan) I think I'd need a week at least "to suggest books, to vote, and to comment."
And I would also very much prefer discussing pictures in books to talking about words about pictures in books.

Like my title says, revive the idea and make it a sticky. We have a photo books forum but it is overbroad, and really kind of moribund in comparison to what a good discussion book club could offer.
I'm in if it takes off. I have a bunch of photo books I can discuss, mostly journalistic stuff.

I love this idea, photo books are one of my favorite things to read and a trip to the basement in the photographers gallery leaves me like a kid in a bookshop!

i wish i saw this thread the first time around! count me in.
how should we go about choosing what to read? i'm leaning towards people making nominations up to a certain date, and then we vote on them.

Just a reminder. The original Book Club ran a few discussions. I didn't take part at the time but read some of the recommended books. The discussions were very interesting and the conversation fruitful and polite even where there was disagreement (credit to all these old RFf members who took part back then). But the process was also slow. Interested parties had to order the book, wait for it to arrive and, finally, read it. As usual, the herd runs with the speed of the slowest.
The first book selected for discussion was Jay and Hurn's On Being a Photographer. (Dyer's Ongoing Moment was a close second choice.) Here is the discussion thread: http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=595283#post595283
The second book was Art and Fear by Bayles and Orlands. The relevant discussion thread is here: http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=595283#post595283
And the third was Badger's and Parr's The Genius of Photography, the book which accompanied the BBC show. I can't find the thread of the discussion, so maybe the group petered out by that point.
All three titles were rather introductory and because of that they made for a comfortable read. Dyer's Ongoing Moment is pitched on the same level so it might be a good suggestion to start with. I am not too sure I'll be able to take part (lots of stuff happening for me right now) but I'll sure follow and chip in the best I can when time (and inclination tbh) allows.
