Australia/New Zealand RFF camera round Australia and NZ

Wonderful, the camera arrived today. I look forward to using it as I have been to occupied to photograph lately.

No worries Skibeerr. I know what you mean about too busy, I had trouble giving the camera the attention it warranted. I only just managed to finish a roll of film, haven't had time to develop it yet, perhaps this weekend. I will post my impressions of the camera soon.
 
great morning with Michael relearning how to dev fp4+ -thanks!

The massive dev ap certainly beats my old paper pencil and clock watching.

it took me 15 minutes to his 2 fiddling round in the dark bag to get the rolls on the spool.

There are even images on the roll - back tomorrow when the film dries!

you know what Mark, I almost could go back to film. With the exception of all that wildlife photography with the 5 frame /sec FF DSLR and monster primes I have time for these days, I could happily get by.

Last night , after seeing some Michael's great prints from his film outfit, I took a FM3a with 35mm biogon /2 (Portra 400) and ZI with CV 35mm1.4 (Kentmere 400) to a birthday. There were 6 digicams, 2 video cams, and N phones. I reckon I had the most fun!

Mate that's great to hear! And that's what photography should be all about - the fun and the print…IMHO. This Fed-2 changed my life! As I mentioned earlier, all the digital gadgets are gone - except the Ricoh GR - and I now have a Leica IIIf with Summicron…..as well as having just bought a CV28/3.5 off the classifieds here to complement the classic 50mm. What more do I need? (OK let's not ponder that one TOO long as I'm sure somehow I'll fill the blank :eek:). Again all the fault of this Fed-2.

Is that all the free time between full time work and two kids that we have?!! You'd need 5 frames/sec just to get off 2 shots in all that free time!

Good to hear you're shooting, I don't know how you switch around so many cameras though!

OK a few frames up on the image thread.

Mark that little CV 28 is a gem - a great compact 2 lens kit. And the GR ...yum.

Batey 1020 and Scrambler -(is that a Triumph reference - mine's an 08) - thank you for kickstating this, and Michael thanks heaps for the guidance and yakking.

This has been an invigorating experience that has really helped to recapture some of the soul of image making, versus camera hunting on the auction site or in the classifieds.

No, I was using the handle before Triumph was. But I would like one. I had a Yamaha XS650 Triumph copy years ago and the style of the Scrambler appeals to me. Nice avatar, nice bike.

Hello all, firstly my apologies for taking so long to post, I have had a lot of other things to do at the moment and this has taken a bit of a back seat.

Using it was quite instinctive and not unlike most other cameras I have used. The one thing I had to refer to the manual for was the rewind. I would never have guessed that the ring was for rewind, I thought it was a shutter lock, if not for the manual I’d still be trying to get the film out.

Things I liked;
The general heft of it. I thought the weight was quite good and made it easier to hold it steady at slower shutter speeds. It is not noticeably heavier than most of the other cameras I carry regularly, in fact it’s a bit lighter than some of them.
The dioptre was a great thing as I wear glasses normally and it enabled me to shoot without them. If I owned it I would probably hot melt glue it in position, as it had a habit of moving at the wrong time and throwing my focus off.
I loved the “look” of it and the Cyrillic writing was a nice change from what I am used to.

Things I didn’t like;
That squinty viewfinder was a real pain. I did however like the way everything seemed to appear grimy and “eastern bloc” when I looked through it, or was that just my imagination?
The lack of slow shutter speeds was the deal breaker for me though. I was shooting FP4 and could have done with some slow speeds. I should have probably stuck to TriX but it was a 2 for 1 deal at VanBars, so what was I to do?
It was the one major flaw in an otherwise cool camera.
I would be interested to try one with some other lenses, but I think by the look of them, the aux viewfinders are just as squinty as the original.
I am pretty keen to see the film once it's been processed.
 
Guys, this is lightning fast compared to the Canonet28 that I sent round the world, which took nearly 3 years and with fewer participants!

You're doing really well.

Thanks. So far we are averaging three weeks per participant.I think that's great, but not having had any posts for a month I thought it was worth bumping to make sure it wasn't forgotten.
 
Unfortunately the camera did not get here before the Easter break, i am outside the metropolitan area always takes a little longer with Auspost. So no Fed-Fun here over the break.
 
Finally the little Russian has made the journey across our great country just to late for the Holiday period. The Fed-2 arrived healthy and complete, just will be at work this week so the shooting will start at the weekend.
