Australia/New Zealand RFF camera round Australia and NZ

The Weather is not very kind to me, we basically had Rain continously for the last week and i have not been able to shot anything. Hope the weather is clearing by mid week and maybe next weekend i can take the camera out.

Looks like it is fining up for Mothersday, but i have no hope of shooting anything today.
BTW Perth had more rain in May already, then in the last decade and it is only the 11.

OK that is a lot of water - King Neptune's trident must be under water! Hope your film, negs and cameras are high and dry.

Hey Guys,

I've just heard from Hausen in Auckland, I'd be delighted to join, I'm in Tuaranga, NZ.

Cheers, Jason.

Great news! The Russian has made it across the Ditch!

...and having just checked out your Flickr/website (fab images) the Fed is going to be rubbing lugs with some pretty good company...;-)

I'm in Auckland as well and keen to be involved - it's a great idea....

...but am acutely aware this is my first post and I will potentially appear to be a (very confident) camera thief.

I will PM hausen with my work email address which should provide some comfort. He can decide my trustworthiness or not.

Good Day,
The FED-2 has left the Oz shores and is traveling south to NZ.

Here is my blurb about that little Camera.
The camera feels very solid and is similar to the Zorkies I have been using. When i got her i did a quick shutter test and to my surprise the speeds are very accurate.
Here are my findings:
1/24 ; 1/59 ; 1/112 ; 1/220 ; 1/375 this is better then most old mechanical cameras.

The Lens has a slight wobble but glass looks pretty good.

Loading film is standard for a FSU camera and presents no Problem, the big let down is the small viewfinder, compared to Zorkie and Kiev this is tiny, but the rangefinder patch is good and the diopter adjust is working ( i need that).

All in all a very usable and competent little camera.
Lets take some pictures and find out.

I took 2 1/2 rolls of Polypan F at 64ASA and developed in Mic-X.

More tomorrow thank you.

On it goes,
No post processing except resize has been done to the images, what you see came out of the box.
Frame spacing is very good, just be gentle and consistent with winding is the secret. Never tried the self timer.
One other thing is that the f-stop engraving is on the bottom of the lens, which is very strange even for a FSU, luckily somebody stuck a paper scale on the top, 10 points to that guy.

All together i had fun and if we do it again count me in.

Thank you to all.
Mike

The little Fed-2 arrived end of last week and the next day my 903SWC did as well. Think I maybe a little sidetracked for a week or so. Will pass it onto CamB first.
So NZ list so far is:
CamB - Auckland
Hausen -Auckland
Janrzm -Tauranga

Sounds good - I am off overseas for a family holiday from 5 July so I will be good for a quick turnaround (and some average photos).

David (hausen) kindly met up with me earlier in the week and allowed my to have first crack in NZ with the Fed. As I mentioned above, I am away overseas soon so was focused on blazing through a roll, developing and scanning it. Haste also gives me a good excuse for poor photos. I have posted some results in the photo thread.

The camera was fun and easy (enough) to use. It certainly feels good in the hand and has a nice heft and mechanical feel. With glasses on, I found it almost impossible to frame accurately (and quite hard to focus), but with the cool adjustable diopter lever I could use it without glasses.

Shutter speeds seemed accurate enough and I generally metered using a light meter, (and some "hazy 11" - it wasn't sunny) although I am just learning to use the meter so that may have explained why some of my exposures were a bit hit and miss. I reckon about 1/5 of them were underexposed about 1 stop when I wouldn't have expected it.

You can see some missed focus (selfie particularly bad) and I suspect I was a source of camera shake on a couple. Lower light is a challenge with 125 speed film, with a 1/30s slowest speed and f2.8. The night shot is on B.
