RFF Leica Serial numbers

Nugard

Nugard

They may be made to a different standard.

I only have 2 M's, and I've posted both here I think. I'm thinking of moving to a NEX, but can't seem to sell or even give away my M bodies.

Could she explaine, what is so special about them?..

BTW, Ted (hope i get your name right) why don't you show us some of your stuff?.. I think, you have some treasure to show ;)

Leica Stepper IIIC 388497

I wrote Jim Lager as recommended on this board to get information on this camera. He informed me that the camera was shipped to Dresden on 27.10.42 and would have been grey finish at that time; the previous owner, before he died, had it repainted black. So this is a Black Paint Grey IIIC with a non K shutter.

As for its location today, I am in Canada, and my name is in my signature.

I will gladly take watever you have to give away, but only if you could ship it to Ukraine, or Germany... ;)

And what is "Stepper"?..

Nice history, man. You see what are talking here... It's nice to read storys like this...

Ok

Ok

Can you explain again why you want my serial numbers, and what your privacy policy is?

Well, it's all written on pages of this thread... I invite you to post some pictures and information about your camera... It's your decision wheater to post, or not... Personally I don't understand why not post it, what is a big secret out of it?.. Did you sell something in classifieds?.. Well, if I bought something there, or elsewhere, I would be pleased to know the history of this thing I bought, what did it see before me, it's kind of exciting... Theres almost 200 pages in a thread "Let's see your Leica M", where guys are showing their cameras... And now, you ask me about privacy?..

Please, tell me what is disturbing you, when you mentioned it...

the fear Nugard, is that someone can claim that your M camera was stolen from them and then attempt to claim it back. the fear originates with car number plates where the bigger fear is that your car will get 'cloned' by another getting the same licence plate meaning that they can commit crime in a car that then proves to be yours (parking tickets turning up at your house for example).

it's a bit paranoid really and i cant honestly see how it could ever matter in the camera world. i bought my camera from a camera shop, not ebay or anything like that so i have a company to hold accountable if my camera ever shows up as having been stolen during previous ownership but there is a very real chance that someone on this forum is in possession of a camera that was, at some point, stolen and i think the idea of that coming back to cause someone trouble is enough for people to keep their serial numbers close to their chest.

it's a bit ironic really considering the fact that we take cameras out in public and this forum flares up from time to time about police and the public protesting about us going out and taking photos of them or others :D

I get it...

Well, I didn't thought it would be THAT bad... So many leicas... And so few on the list so far... Just thinking about that all others MIGHT be stolen... It gives me creeps...

I don't know... It's always you to decide... Many people, like you bought their cameras from the shop... So why don't they post SNs...

I agree, it's kind of spooky, to post your SN if you bought your camera on the yard sale... But how big is actually chance that your camera was stolen, how big is chance that previous owner will be here, how big is the chance is that he capt all the papers (the only reason, about what I could think of possibility that will let somebody say that "it's mine camera"), and how big is possibility that you two guys will be in one country (I think no country will bother about getting back your camera making it international case)...

There might be chance that some cameras were stolen not only once... Twice... Or three times...

I didn't want to say this, but actually how many of you feeling safe getting in the street with a $2.000-10.000 on your neck... What if somebody tries to steel it, or if there will be rain, or if a hurricane, or what if a brick will fall on your head, and you will die, and the first person that will saw it gets your precious camera?.. It's always SOME possibiliy that something might go wrong (as we think it shoudn't be)...:bang:

A stepper is a certain kind of IIIc with a little step under the rewind lever. Most of them, however, have a flat plate at the lever. Look at the camera titled IIIc on this page: http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/buy/leica/leica.htm, and compare it with the camera on this page: http://www.nicobastone.com/Leica_3c.htm. You will notice that there is a slight "step" on the first camera.

Ahha!.. I see it!.. Thanks!.. I will edit your info on list about this camera...

I see the Step, that's pretty neat.

I see us using this thread as a type of registry of our cameras, to show and prove ownership of them, but I also understand the concerns. We are of course grateful for all those who contribute to the thread, it's really great to see these numbers, how old they really are, and to hear any stories the owners can tell of them.
I am also still a little surprised we have not seen any sequential numbers - from different members. I thought we'd see a few at least.

I think the idea of this being a Members Only thread is a good idea. And we're not talking jackets here!

Also, I have thought... About what if make it anonymous?..

Right now I'm thinking if this compromise could be done...

How about someone will be anonymous without regarding of a person, or country, but with cameras SN and a picture, that he will send me PM. So, there will be a camera of anonym, with SN, and a story of modifing it, or other interesting things?..

For some people, big enough and i might be one of them myself if my camera was a yard sale/ebay buy

That's what insurance is for - my camera, my bag and even my head is insured when i'm out and about and the only thing that i'd be really angry about losing in that circumstance would be the photos in the camera - those are irreplaceable while the camera is not (and if i got brained i wouldn't be in a position to worry about it anyway !)

What do you think about this:

I've made a new GREEN statement on the first page, about privacy policy...

Guys, you can participate now without a "back thought"... :)
