RFF - Let’s Not Lose Focus!

There are sensible guidelines for moderation that are more important than political references or specific government policies. This does not mean that members cannot express their opinions, but it does preclude rudeness and other factors:
These include:
1. No bullying or harassment of a member(s) by others
2. No hateful comments towards other members or other people or groups in general.

Also, RFF membership should be inclusive regardless of race, religious beliefs, political affiliation, gender, or sexual preference, country of origin and residence. And all members are deserving of respect.

These guidelines have in my 12+ years on the RFF been used successfully. I see no reason why they cannot be continued as such.

Exactly!

All members have already agreed that posts can be moderated or removed for any reason.

The clarification regarding political posts wasn’t actually necessary however as a courtesy seems to be appreciated by nearly everyone.

Carry on!

Thanks to each one of you who has sent me a direct message regarding this thread in support of the RFF political post policy. It’s much appreciated.

Also, to those who have been abusing the report system (@Phil_F_NM ) so as to waste moderator time your privileges have been suspended and you really should be banned.

Please read the terms and rules, especially the part about trolling and disruptive behavior.

Sonnar Brian, firstly let me say I'm a great fan of your posts here on RFF, with all your valuable expertise and advice on things optical, but I did see the one post referring to Charlie Kirk. Perhaps I missed others before your redaction, but the one I read seemed acceptable to me in context.
I agree that you were right to edit that particular phrase but to lock the thread is an overreaction.
On the other hand I recognise "NY Journal" contains almost nothing related to RFF's normal business and Calzone has been wholesale indulged by letting him blog shamelessly for several hundred pages, but that thread is a leavening diversion and useful public information for a whole lot of life matters. Calzone is a character that should be nurtured in any forum, no matter how off-topic. He is a long-standing member.
As has been mentioned above, there have been a number of very bright contributors who have been turned away by unfriendly ad hominem backchat, who have not been adequately protected or backed by other members, and I regret that very much. It would be a shame to lose another.

That’s odd, if your password is letting you post on the forum you should be able to see messages. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies.
