I am concerned for all of our RFF members in the New Orleans and Gulf Coast area. Could we keep a thread open temporarily for folks to check in and keep track of one another?

Natalia and her family are safe in Houma, LA; in all likelihood they will not have a home to return to for quite some time. I am including a link to Natalia's website with a PayPal button if members would care to give direct assistance:

A Spoonful of Russian

I would like to know about the welfare of other memebers in the area -- please post a quick note if you get a chance. Let us know if we can help you (aside from sending Leica's and lenses 🙂). I would like to ask that all members give as generously as you can afford to help with the relief in this area. We have an opportunity to give both directly to our friends and to wider based relief organizations -- the people in this region desperately need all the help we can provide. May our thoughts and prayers be with them...

Hmm, unfortunately this PayPal account does not accept non-US-PayPal payments...

Natalia is using the Library computer in Houma, LA and her online access is limited by the long lines of other users. I'll let her know about this problem. In the meantime I will forward any donations to her if other members experience the same problem; please PM me and we can make arrangements. Thank you!!!

I got it, Doug and Roman. I have no words. It's a great blessing. They just fixed our internet, so I won't be disconnected from the world anymore🙂 Gonna go catch up on RFF's thread. Oh, how's that "Pass the Camera" project going? I hope my turn is not too soon - I wanna be there to participate.

Natalia - it's wonderful to hear that you and your family are safe. It is very scary watching the news reports from over there - a terrible time for everyone effected. My wife lived through Cyclone Tracey, which destroyed the Australian city of Darwin in 1974. Our thoughts are with you.

Correction - that was '74 not '75.

Natalia! Gman & I are happy to hear you & your family are safe.

We hope any other members from that area are safe as well. You are all in our prayers.

Indeed, we are very happy that you and your family are safe! If you are interested, some aerial photography is starting to filter through for the coast. All this is recent, captured by a friend of mine on a FEMA contract after the hurricane.

Just click inside the black boxes to bring up another menu which will give you the imagery for that area. Incredible the devastation.

We'll make sure you don't miss your turn, Natalia. Hey, I'm not too far away, in Dallas--- anything I can do, just let me know.
Sincerely,
KZ

Good to hear that Natalia and family is alright! Saw on the news here in Singapore that New Orleans is really in bad shape! 🙁

Thank God you and family are OK, Natalia. I went to LSU many years ago and of course spent every weekend in New Orleans. What a tragedy, and what a failure on the part of our government to react at once and effectively. Barbara's best friend, Cindy, is from Houma.

It's a great relieve to have some positive news in all this tragedy.
Property can be replaced, lives not :-(

Thankyou for checking in. Hope things calm down quickly, and you have a safe return to New Orleans.

My family members from New orleans are staying with family in Georgia. For a nephew, the move back to GA may be permanent.

We got to go back and survey the damage......Some photos and text can be found on my "A Spoonful of Russian" website. We are going back to N.O. today again to pull the carpets........

how did i miss this thread?

i't's good to hear from/about you natalia.
what devastation!
your home looks battered but it's still there and that must be some relief.

all the best and don't hesitate to ask if there is something you need or that we might be able to do.
