your home looks battered but it's still there and that must be some relief.

Somehow I missed it too. So glad you and your family are safe Natalia. You all have been in my prayers. Glad you have been able to get back and have at least part of a home. Stay safe!

A young Katrina hit Miami on August 25 as a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 80 mph and gusts to 96 mph. We lost most of our trees, but our house survived ok. We are still clearing the yard of debris. For us, it was not as bad as Hurricane Andrew in 1992. My heart goes out to those on the Gulf Coast who suffered much more damage, dislocation, and tragedy from Katrina.

Natalia it looks like you had an enclosed porch that was smashed to bits - quite a bit of work indeed... 🙁 But if there can be a silver lining, you didn't suffer any flooding?

Natalia it looks like you had an enclosed porch that was smashed to bits - quite a bit of work indeed... 🙁 But if there can be a silver lining, you didn't suffer any flooding?

Unfortunately, we did get water in the house - The wind tore off a big chunk of the roof and let water in. The carpet is coming off. Other things got water damage as well....But that's nothing compared to what some of our friends went through. A friend of ours, a N.O. police officer, lost his home completely. He lived in Arabi....He said he'll be moving out of town when all this is over......

I am so sorry to hear that Natalia. But as you say everything is relative... I presume that regular homeowners insurance doesn't cover this either unless you have special "hurricane" insurance as a rider. 🙁
