RFF Printing service.

In order to help pay for this great site, RFF is going to offer a printing service to its members. This is a test project which I hope will be successful.

Here is what the RFF print service and price structure will consist of.

RFF will print on the state of the art Epson 4000 printer with Ultrachrome Archival inks on Matt or Semi Gloss paper. Simply send me your file and RFF will print them without any adjustments using Adobe Photoshop CS. I will setup a service for you to submit your files or if you have many, you can mail them on a CD.

Pricing is $5.00 per square foot of print with rounding up to the nearest.

Here are some examples:

8 x 10 = $5.00
11 x 14 = $10.00
16 x 20 = $15.00

Panoramics can be done as well. Simply multiply the height by width in inches that you want, then devide that by 144 and multiply it b 5

For example a 12” x 30” = 360 square inches divided by 144” = 2.5 square feet rounded up to 3 = $15.00

Mailing cost depends on your location.

Payments can be made via paypal.

Hmmm. Sounds good. I am OK with photoshop, but really unfamiliar with the nitty gritty of the printing process. Are there any quick tutorials on how to best to prepare my file so that when I send it to you, the print looks as close as possible to what I see on MY monitor? Color-wise I mean.

For instance, At home I view my images on a laptop and I have my gamma bumped a bit. After I upload them here and go to work, the image is not as bright on the monitors at work.

Maybe we can stick a short instruction list somewhere to streamline the process of preparing the files we send to you, if there's not already.

Thanks,

Scott

Jorge, would you like an invitation to gmail? It gives you 1 gig of mailbox room, that should be enough to receive and send large files. PM me your email address if you would like one and I will send an invitation.

Can you print B&W too?

Wow, this sounds great, Jorge! I second what Gene said, I could definitely use a primer on what you need as far as files go for printing. I'm using either PS Elements or iPhoto, depending on mood to prep my images. I have a shot that a friend of mine wanted, I'd love to be able to give her a quality print for Xmas.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I have recently been looking around for just such a service, and it would be great to have it right here.
I "third" the motion for some guidelines, a FAQ or something that would indicate the minimum resolution per print size, what the maximum file sizes could be, etc.
You guys have really got it going on here!

more info to come. this is juststarting and i look forward to helping everyone i can. stay tuned for more.

Hi Jorge, I think this is a great idea! A few constructive contributions to it:

1) There's a need to have some form of calibration or colour profiling. Alternatively, the sender should trust the printer to tweak the image as he sees fit (which means the photo won't be printed straight out w/o editing as previously stated)
2) Issue of ensuring large prints are mailed w/o damage enroute.
3) cost of mailing for members located far away from the printer.
4) Issue of whether the printer is more suited for colour reproduction or BW reproduction.

Hope these helps!

What do you think about a cooperation with shutterfly or any another online print services?

I have this printer, and the B&W prints, even using standard Epson paper, are gorgeous without any special profiling. Defaults all the way. The semi-gloss finish is nice, too, with very natural colour rendition. Might not be gaudy enough for digital camera adicts, but we don't have too many of those here.

We use this printer at university. It's great.

It does a very good job with Black and White prints with the standard ink set, I have several in my portfolio. Obviously still no where near as good as a traditional darkroom print.

But it is brilliant for digital negatives!

Stu :)

Jorge has printed a couple of 11x14's for me. Some color and some BW. The quality of the printing is great and well worth it.

Long time bump, is the print service still available ?

On a conversation with Don, we talked about the option of starting a RFF prints exchange, just like a similar one that took place at PN a while ago.

Not sure if it's still feasible or not...
