If you are so inclined, please post descriptions or lists of what you would like this RFF site to be like, and/or what you would not like this RFF site to be like.

My biggest concern, as others have stated in other threads, is that eBay-lite is absolutely wrong for this site.

I would like us to let this site be what it will be rather than talking about what it should be or is.

No offense meant, just my humble opinion.

Kinda have to agree. Jorge can do as he pleases, really. Though he clearly takes everyones suggestions and concerns seriously. I can say I dont like the new classifieds, but its either go with the flow or......as he said maybe he'll somehow combine the new and old at some point.

Total agreement here. Forgive me, Frank, but where I live and work a request like this often has a hidden agenda... do you thin there is something wrong with RFF? As above, no offense intended (although I sometimes speak so earnestly that I do it anyway. If so, please understand... it's my personality, not my intent!)

No offense taken! :)

Those who know me in real life know that my opinions are seldom humble either. :)

I would like this site to be the friendly and helpful place it was about a year ago.

I would like to see everybody get off this {expletive} kick of access levels, privileges, and all of that drek and get back to discussing photography and such. I realize that I'm disobeying that right here and now, but I (think I) very seldom get into these {blank}ing metadiscussions.

If money needs to be raised, think outside the box. Instead of a sponsor donating a camera, have them donate funds to keep the place running. Do a fund-raiser like NPR does, but please don't push Paypal. I'm far more willing to donate if it's voluntary and I know it's appreciated. Find a "candy machine". Sell swag. Ball caps aren't my thing, but I would sure wear a RFF t-shirt or carry a RFF tote bag.

Those RFF books could be an excellent source of revenue if you tacked on a few $$$ to support the site.

And yes, I'll put my money where my mouth is if somebody will just post a street address to send a check or MO.

Oh well, I've ranted enough for one day. :)

Amen!

it seems this site is trying hard right now not to be what it is. :) I'm going to go visit the Camera and Coffee thread and pine for the good ol' days! :) :) :)

I think that a lot of thoughts and ideas have been thrown at Jorge over the past several days and we should give him time to reflect on those and what he would like the site to be.

Trying to manage by a Committee of 4000 just won't work.

One thing is for certain: if this site needs cash I am sure the members will rise to the occasion, they have demonstrated this in the past in other areas.

I agree, I think this thread is kind of weak in substance, almost as weak as the "My dream M would have these features..."

I really wish that all of us could get together for a big BBQ.

Let the strap loose, so to speak. Burn some film (not literally, I hope). Down some beer (ok, some lemonade) and nice plump hot dogs, let the bellicose brand lovers (that's where a lot of friction begins) do some karaoke together.

It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood...

No, really, seriously. I really think that if most of us met at least once, in a conference, which Jorge kind of thought up, I think it would help a lot. Perhaps regionally?

Perhaps we should revive the "put a face to the name" thread. Or create an entirely new one. No kumbaya. I mean it.

I soon want an option where I can filter out any more threads about RFF features/funding and site maintenance.

Until some better ideas come forth I am for funding via Joe's suggestion. With the same size ads as now there could be space for Fuji, Kodak, Canon, Nikon, or other similar corporations. The old classified system could come back and coexist with the new. We could have a private or public suggestion box so Jorge and Joe or other designates could filter through the ideas and pick the ones they are comfortable with. The above suggestions are offered in the spirit of keeping RFF good or trying to make it better. :) :)

Apart from the server issues the site was fine as it was. The funding issue has caused some changes to be made - premium gallery, new classifieds. I'm not keen on either. This isn't just a "I don't like change" issue. I don't actually mind change where it improves a situation, but the recent changes seem to have been knee jerk reactions and for the worse. I too am getting tired of the discussions around funding although I appreciate that it needs to be aired. However, it has IMHO been somewhat divisive, polarising the subscription versus the free camps. At the end of the day I'm happy to contribute to keep this site going in whatever way is chosen. My hope is that it is simple to understand, does not create an "elite", and doesn't scare away new members.

Lets get back to talking about photog. Its getting stressful to visit this place and I already have enough of that in my life.

geez...frank, you made me log out and log on again to answer this important question...

what i would like, which, btw, is far from what this site is now, is people are really coming to share "photography", critique, question and answer to specific photography related, either gear or shooting technique, light, composition, darkroom, etc....

what i hate is people coming to say "i order such such today and they are in the mail..." and then, worse, seeing so many others suck up and post this and that. the drifters...i don't mind jokes, but please set up a category that says "joke" or "people greeting each other" because they are not photograpphy related. in which case the moderators main job will be to make sure all these threads be moved to that category.

i know some of you will have that famous say, "well, skip them, simple." well, it is not as simple when you have to scan through the entire site just to find one thread to read. often that thread is once in a blue moon...

maybe it is just me, but with people anxious to pay $25 (or whatever the amount you are all talking about) for the subcription fee, i will pay 2 pennies for the percentage i care about...

pn might be a zoo but it does have more substance when it come to photography, especially the "street and document" forum.

ops...off the topic now.

This is a little OT, but the Rob Galbraith site has closed its forums and is now attempting to sell them. Galbraith says it just got too big to handle, for the small income the forums provided. Galbraith has long been one of the bigger photo-discussion sites on the web.

No worries, Brian.

If I didn't care about RFF, I wouldn't bother speaking up on the issues of the changes that were made and/or proposed.
