I've put the planned software update off for the time being because the newest editions of the software give more new problems than old solutions. Unfortunately the new software upgrades would have changed the RFF database, making it difficult if not impossible to return to the old software. So for the time being, status quo. We are still looking for possible upgrades in the future, including changing software if that is the best way to go.

BTW the trial site members commented on was VERY incomplete. It was put up to look at the basic software. Most of the negative comments were about lacking features that simply were not installed yet.

I've just been playing with punBB. Its the antithesis of most forums in that it has absolutely minimal features. Not even photo uploading but you can link to extenal images. I really like it for its simplicity as a pure chat forum. But if you want bells and whistles and galleries then VBulletin seems to be the most robust with the biggest community of developers.

Thanks for hosting the site Stephen!
I'm sure all of us grumble about stuff once in a while but this is the best photography site around!.

APUG have just upgraded and there were a raft of bugs. Not sure how many were due to VBulletin and how many were due to mods by the owner but it seemd like a hell of a lot of work for something that should be a simple task.
I don't envy anyone trying to moderate a forum and fight off spammers from signing up.

Thanks for all your efforts and providing a very civilised forum.

In view of cancelled migration to latest version of VB would it be too much to ask if we could have the main top menu bar in the current Iskin theme modified to provide the same options as the one in graphite Xpand theme does? i.e. with quick links and all the other extra buttons in it.

Thanks for keeping us informed. Not all sites do that. Also thanks for not jumping into something that might be worse in the short and long run.

Myself, I am satisfied with things are OK as they are. I don't mind having to link photos in. A better solution than hosting massive storage, which in a way is already being done in the gallery.

I am just thankful for this site.

i enjoy this site and it would not be possible without the dedication of the administrators. Hip Hip Hooray!

p.s. If my comments on the test site were abrasive to you I give you persmission to slap me upside the head and tell me to focus! :)

Thank goodness. Stephen, I referred this site as a great working forum model to those consultants who were hired to change the Mercedes Benz Club of America website and forums. They totally screwed up the original site and upon receiving my link to the RFF site, they were impressed and thought it was the best they had seen.

I doubt they have enough money to change the MBCA website again but it needs to be changed as members and participants in the forum have dropped to nothing in the past few months.

Lesson: if it ain't broke....:) But if you want to change it, be darned careful because it is risky.
