RFF Strikes Again

Thanks, RFFers, for your insidious, atavistic propaganda. By virtue of your intelligent discussions and great images you have convinced me to abandon my digital Canon 5D system in return for some Leica glass, a few rolls of film and a handful of cash.

Just call me retro!

I think I may venture into digital again when a manufacturer offers a product somewhere between the M8/RD-1 and the Ricoh GRD — In other words, I may not live long enough!

Jon — Yes, I have enough images on stock sites to continue a modest income stream for awhile. It was just boring and meaningless. I decided to relax and have fun, meaning film and RFs, at least right now.

memphis — Right. Have you been a good boy? If so, what kind of Leica would you like to get?

Hopefully you will not regret selling your 5D - I cannot even start to imagine living without mine. Although I love my Rfs, if forced to give up all but one camera, I would keep the 5D - the versatility and the image quality are just beyond words.

Bike Tourist: Many of us have found that a compromise is good. Many people who shoot film RFs for fun also shoot digital for utility. Consider getting one decent, small digital camera with a SHARP lens and at least 4 MP.

Sometimes, it is just nice to take something to HAVE something without feeling like you have to be responsible for your bad images.

Canon Elph SD600 fit the bill for me. Pocket-sized, decent lens, 6 MP. Extremely handy.

When challenged, I can say "It is for the wife. I shoot only film." hehehe.

I still keep my digital SLR. It's not as fancy of one as you had, and the glass is probably more humble too, but I can do anything with a digital SLR. I'll use it for side income. The wife also likes this and cannot imagine why I would choose film when I have this option.

Ah I guess I'm a bad influence, because I'm on the fence. I'll probably never have a Leica & lenses; that's too much commitment for me.

NIKON KIU — No slight intended. In fact, I may be visiting my daughter (at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore) later this year. It would be no trouble to go to DC and see all your Nikon stuff. We had a good time shooting in DC last year.

That's a rather nice little collection!

I can't give up my digital cameras but the question of whether I would if I could is an interesting one. However, seeing as I possess only two lenses for my M6 its best if I don't ponder that too long before I begin to pawn every bit of digi kit I have to finance a shopping spree!

The nice thing about film is that you can scan it and still PS all you want if that is your desire. Even "straight" photography benefits by a little adjustment here and there, for me much easier than the old wet darkroom.

A 6x9 scanned neg must be formidable, just as it is in the enlarger.

I wish E6 was practical in my area, but it isn't. For that reason, I'll probably get another digital something as soon as I figure out what I want and as soon as a manufacturer makes it.

For a small traveling digital camera, I bought the Oly SP350. Has manual everything, shoots RAW, and is quite small. For bike travel, the new Oly something or other that is water proof sound like a great traveling companion. I ride bikes and small is beautiful.
