RFinder periodical from 1992-1994 by Joel S. Tlumak

All,

Doing some house cleaning and came across 12 issues of a periodical I used to get called "RFinder" that was put out by Joel S. Tlumak of San Francisco in the early 1990s. Topics range from photography philosophy to a review of past and present photo magazines to depth of field tables to...well, you get the idea. I forgot I had these, and am curious whatever happened to him. Maybe my Northern CA pals can shed some light. Love to share these with you but a lot of pages to scan-is there a better way to share these?

Joel Was a Personal Friend

Joel Was a Personal Friend

I met Joel when we were stationed together in the military in 1959. I met him again when we were at a different base, just before we each got out. Joel helped me get my first newspaper job, and we remained friends for many years.

Joel was a brilliant journalist who did not get the recognition he deserved.

He developed a severe type of diabetes sometime in the late 60s, and that affected his vision. An avid photographer, because of his diabetes he had to switch to rangefinder cameras, and that led ultimately to his publication of RFinder, a monthly photo-copied newsletter. Because of Joel's "lifestyle" he moved to San Francisco, which is where he produced the newsletter.

He helped me develop my own interest in photography, and in selecting equipment for the photography I wanted to do.

He retired to Peru in 2000. I visited him there in 2005, and then two or three years later I lost all contact with him. I did not think too much of it at the time, as there had been earlier periods when I lost contact for two or three years or more, and then would get an email or call, but it's been so long now, and his diabetes was so severe, that I fear the worst.

I was just hoping someone would know for sure -- he lived for photography, and I thought someone here might have known him.
