Ricoh 35 zf

How many here have and use a Ricoh 35 zf? I've one of these little cameras and despite the non-working meter and the 'B' setting not closing when tripped until I change the speed setting or advance the film, a result of a do it yourself lens cleaning adventure, seems like a nice little camera.

I've not yet run film through this camera, partly because i forgot it was in the house, partly because I did not have until this last few weeks a complete enough darkroom setup to check out film results.

From what I see this camera is well liked elsewhere and I'd like to hear other opinions on it in general.

By-the-way, if anyone knows where on the web I can view schematics of the 35 zf, so I can try to put the 'B' setting and the meter right, I'd sure appreciate a link or any guidance at all.

Ricoh 35 zf

I have one of these and it seems to work fine. I have read that it does not work without a battery ( the shutter speed will not change) but when I run it through the shutter speeds without the battery it seems to work. IIRC the 500ZF is just like a Ricoh 500G, without
a rangefinder. It's a very pleasant small camera.

The 40mm f/2.8 lens is a very good performer.

This camera offers two exposure modes; metered
manual and shutter priority AE with exposure lock.

It was designed to use a PX675 1.3V mercury battery.
Adjust film speed setting, use Wein cell, or have it
recalibrated to use a 1.5V silver cell (SR44/357/MS76, etc.).

The shutter is mechanical and should work at all
speeds including B without a battery.

Foam light seals are often ugly on these but they
are easy to replace yourself at very modest cost.

Thanks guys for the info. I was beginning to believe no one here would 'own up' to having one of these neat little cameras.

Chris, I'll take a look and see if I can find the schematics for the 500g and see if it helps with the lens repair. I also guess I should take a closer look at the meter and battery compartment and see if there's anything I can do there. Even though I'm fine with a stand alone meter, it's always good to have a working meter in camera.


Eglet, I enjoyed your photographs. It's nice to see the subtle quality of color work with this camera; well done. Did you use the camera meter?

Can you please explain, how 35 ZF can be calibrated to usage with 1.5V batteries. I suppose the way is to change film speed, but to increase or decrease?
