Ricoh 500/519?

A friend of mine is a realtor and was at a house she'll be listing soon yesterday. They had a bunch of junk piled up for a pending estate sale and my friend, knowing I'm a photo nut, saw a camera there and called me about it. Based on her verbal description it sounds like a Ricoh 500 or 519 in good condition, leather case and all. They wanted $40 for it so I told her to grab it for me. I will not see it for another week when I see her again. I found a couple links online about this older puppy but little about it's quality or worth. Did I overpay? How are the lenses on these babies? Anyone got one that can share their experience. Thanks....

I`have the Ricoh 500 Rf and it's a small little camera, I think you paid a fair price, it hasn't got a fast lense, and no parallax correction. For the rest I think it's an excellent performer.
Search the forum there have been other threads about it.

Five-one-nine has a better lens than the 500. The Ricoh 35 'New Deluxe' also looks the same. The Five-one-nine has the best lens, IMHO.

I have the 500 and the Five-One-Nine, and a few variations. But I don't have the 35.

I have a friend with a Ricoh 519 but he gets overlapping frames. Does anyone know where he can have this repaired? Is this something that any competent camera repair person can handle? Thanks!

I have the 500, from greyhoundman, works perfectly and takes pretty decent pictures. Researching online, everyone says the 519 is the better catch. I think cameraquest.com has an article on it.
