Anybody still believes things like this from Pentax?
Always good to hear actual feedback from a user, thanks. 5D bodies are quite cheap these days and it is a model I always liked, so it's food for thought.Don't wait. The Canon 5D/ii/iii/6D etc are great full frame cameras for M42 lenses.
I've used my old Takumars and Zeiss M42's for years now on both 5D and 5Dii.
Really great!
I want to try the Pentax as well and will get this FF body when available.
I also have K and M lenses. Having auto aperture linkage and hopefully IBIS will be great.
Again.... I really like the Color aesthetic of Pentax and Ricoh Sensor output. The RAWs just look better than any other Bayer sensor right out of the camera. Canon does not have that although it's also quite good.

I worked with Pentax DSLRs (*ist DS and K10D) between late 2004 and early 2008. They were good, cost effective cameras, although the lens quality in the Pentax line seemed a bit uneven to me. (The Limiteds were all excellent, the others it depended on the particular lens.) These cameras made a lot of excellent photos for me, and a decent living for a while.
But I moved to FourThirds SLRs in 2007-2008, added Micro-FourThirds in 2009, and added Leica M9 and Sony A7 FF between 2012 and the present.
If I were going for a new FF DSLR now, I'd likely pick the Nikon D750. I've always preferred Nikon lenses and like their latest bodies.

The best camera is one that still works!
I think they've left their run a little late to bring out such a camera personally ... I may be wrong but I just don't think we need another full frame DSLR. Canikon have had this market sewn up for some time now so methinks they should move in the direction Sigma have taken and offer something the others don't.

Pentax dSLR always have been distinct to those of Canon and Nikon:
if pentax keeps doing what they do, it'll have built-in image stabilization, a 100% viewfinder, great controls, top notch build quality, and weather sealing in a compact body. they'll probably add wifi and make the screen tiltable, too.
it'll be old news by the time it gets here, but it'll also be good news because i just don't really like all of the other full frame options.
right on, sums up the virtues of a Pentax very well, I may add great handling and color rendition!
I agree it is a bit late though, for me it is as I had moved on the the even more compact mirrorless cams, therefore actually I'd hope that it won't be a FF dSLR but a FF mirrorless with both Pentax and Ricoh virtues, compact, well built, great handling, colors..
Since a while Pentax now tries to distinguish itself through body colors and, let's say, daring designs. I assume that it worked and has been good for business, but for their first digital FF I'd hope that they rather went back to their earlier approach.

Here's some info for you guys. The FF is coming in 2015, in testing now. There will be a whole new line up of lens to accompany it, including new Limited. My friend is an engineer of Ricoh Japan.

My istDS has been used so much that the focus motor finally died. I installed a Katzeye screen and superglued the function dial to "M" and just keep on using it. It was my very 1st digital camera and the only one I really bonded with.
But yeah, I think I could finally retire the old DS and replace it with one of these if it is any good at all. I think they should call it the Spotmatic D.

It's never too late for this sort of introduction. There are new photographers born everyday.
I just hope that this camera is engineered for "pro" use. Weather seals, IBIS, Big VF etc...
It does not have to be a cheapy. Pentax has plenty of those.

It would be nice if Ricoh will confirm Fuji FF mirrorless

I'm aware of mirror interference with a couple of my Contax lenses at infinity.
I used C/Y , PK and M42 lenses on a 40D.
The only lens which I had a problem with was the K mount 50/1.2 which wouldn`t stop down.

Wonderful news and I'm sure the rather large number of Pentax followers will rejoice. I've always been amazed that Pentax never did this. Hats off to Ricoh.

More competition is good, though maybe Pentax could've devoted its energy into cornering the 645 market?

That's fine but Pentax has always produced compact cameras, more compact than either Nikon or Canon. I can't stand to haul a digital camera around from the N/C people. If Pentax makes one that is the size of say a K-10d then I might buy it. I have many great FF lenses from Pentax which I use every day for film (and some digital), and as I'm not sold on digital and use mostly film an easy small DSLR that my lenses would fit is something I will very much consider.
I feel that FF N/C DSLRs are really not that much better, if at all, than an APS. I've used my friend's FFs and in the real world I can't see the difference.

A full frame DSLR now?
