I have really been enjoying my GRD. The lens draws pictures in a lovely way and it is completely fun to use. I have seen a lot of good results with the Panasonic DMC LX1. I can't knock that camera. The differences are subtle and come down to ergonomics and taste. I think the GRD is better at low light work and is very user -friendly. It does some magical and painterly things with light. Sean Reid has a good review of the camera on his site which convinced me to buy it.
RayPA, you can buy an external finder. I have it and even though it looks a little strange (being rather big) it is wonderful to use. I recommend it over the Voightlander mini finder that people often buy because the GRD finder is tailored for the hot-shoe on the GRD. The hot-shoe is not centred over the lens.
The GRD has a bad reputation for those who insist on RAW files, it is slow to write. However, the jpeg files that the GRD produces are so nice and well-balanced, I can not see you being unhappy with them.
I recommend setting your camera it -.3 exposure and putting contrast at its lowest setting. You can add these things later and it gives you a file with more information.
Careful not to loose the removable front lens ring. I have not been able to find a replacement for mine.
