Of course you can buy a GR today with with all those "wish" features--EVF, full frame sensor, tilting back and a choice of focal lengths. It's called the Sony A7.

Might also be a Sony RX100 Mark something or other.....
But in general, could not agree with you more. Keep it simple, small, weatherproof it and fix the dust issue (odds are at the same time).
Perhaps better low-light focusing/IQ, but other than that don't look to add functionality. I'm very happy with my CV 28mm finder that sat on top of mine until it died. Don't need any film emulations, tilting back as it will mess with size and reliability.

Congrats, Helen. For a dedicated 50mm shooter, it should be interesting. Be sure to try snap focus. I really miss that feature.

I bought my 4th GRI/GRII (one got stolen, two broke and the 4th i lost). Best digital i jave ever used. If the GRIII comes i will buy that to. But i wont sell my GRII.

I'm so ready for a GR III. Just would like to see a modern sensor and better low light AF. Everything else can stay the same...

Heard some good info from a supposedly reliable source... the GR3 will be 24mp, will have Pentax's SR, will have an OVF, but no EVF, and will have a touch screen. Sounds interesting, but it is still a rumor.

If that's true and it's under $700 I will buy it no question. I'm trying to sell my GRii right now because I can't stand shooting with the LCD and I'm frankly not a fan of the color images that come out of it. A new sensor/processor should help with that, and an OVF would be awesome.

Have you thought of an external finder. I used a Metal 28 CV finder and loved it. Makes it too big for a pocket, but fun to use, very retro looking, even with a wrist strap.

I was thinking yesterday which camera is the best for travel in terms of price, size and sensor blend. Plus, rechargeable via USB to save even more space in carry-on.
GR II came as the leader.
External OVF is WG style, but quality 28mm and not huge one is 100USD at least for used. With above 200$ price tag for new one.
OVF makes a lot more sense if on travel. With turned off screen is like dual battery. So, no second battery is needed, nor it is allowed in carry-on, they say.

I have an OVF (actually 2, though I can't find one🙂, but I rarely use it now. I bought mine as part of a kit when I bought the GRDII, the other came with the used GRII I bought after by GR broke, and I couldn't bond with the X100T I bought to replace it.) I did use the OVF a lot on my GRD2 when I was shooting in bright sun in Haiti --lesson: if you're going to use it while wearing sunscreen and sweating like a pig, get a protector for the back screen🙂
I do use an external charger and don't find it a problem in terms of space with carry one; it's smaller than a pouch pack of cigarettes.
I used it as my main camera in Vietnam in January 2017. I wish it had some weatherproofing and better high ISO (although I found it better than the X100T at higher ISOs.) I did use it in drizzling rain, which after leaving Ho Chi Minh City was the norm for the next week, except when there was pouring rain. You can use it one-handed, so your other hand is free to hold an umbrella
As for carrying extra batteries on carry-on; I thought the restrictions are related to battery size. The GR batteries are small.
