is a GR1 with no manual controls.

The lens is the same GR 28mm f/2.8,
body panels are made of metal (probably stamped sheet metal instead of cast magnesium on GR1)
the viewfinder is the same minus the shutter speed scale (and it also lights up the same way GR1 viewfinder does),
there is no aperture priority nor exposure compansation,
uses larger battery (CR123 instead of CR2),
has a fixed focus mode, where you can lock the focus after you prefocus at any distance until you unlock the focus - similar to snap pode of GR1, but IMO even better.

Not a GR1, but it also doesn't cost as much as GR1.

Great camera. I have read that the finder is visibly better though less information is displayed. Its like using a GR1 in P mode, also there is no over overexposure warning like in the GR1 .The body is made from stamped aluminum and the batteries are said to last a very long time ..I often see them here in Japan for about $200.00 or less .

Here is a web archive of a site that has some great info on these cameras .

I got mine for less than the usual price in Japan. Still shooting the first film in it.

The only thing I dislike about this camera is the shutter button feel. There is very little difference between the 1st (AF) and 2nd (shutter release) position.
