Ricoh GRD II or Lumix LX3?

I have found two good offers, but I can't find out if I should buy the Ricoh GRD II creative set ( 320 Euro) or the Lumix LX3 ( 333 Euro, only the camera). What would you do?

I've had the LX2, GX100, and currently the GRD3.

They all take great pictures. 🙂 But I greatly prefer the handling & control of the GRD3. GRD is also slimmer than the LX series. From what I read though GRD3 is a notable upgrade from GRD2. Do you think you can find a good deal for one?

My advice for you is to decide whether you love the 28mm focal length or you like having a wide to short telephoto zoom. Also whether it'll be the only camera you use and what you like to shoot would help you determine which camera to get.

I take a lot of streetphoto and like the 28mm. I already have a Ricoh GXR with the A12 28mm and use it a lot, but if I buy the GRD II I will also get the 21mm "lens" for it. On the other hand the LX 3 have a 24mm. Some times I also take low light shots, but most of all I take a lot of BW shoots.

Although I like Ricoh, without being a fanboy, I, personally, would probably choose the LX3 over a Grd2. The Ricoh have the better user interface but the Grd2 is still the model which is least liked among the current three Grd-models.

This is mainly because of deteriorations: slow AF (removed phase detection sensors) and very aggressive NR of jpegs, that can't be turned off, which begin to show off at iso 200 or 400. It makes it more or less to a raw-only camera to get the best out of it. However the LX3 is not a perfect performer either.

If it is a Ricoh Grd you want. Go for the Grd1 or Grd3 instead. While the raw-writing of the Grd1 is slow (approximately 9 secs as fastest. Depends on what card is being used)it is a very capable to produce grainy B&W images.

Get the GRD I or III if you looking at B & W most of the time, the II has too much software noise reduction to remove the noise and resolution. Loving my current setup.

Nice! Currently I own both the GR-D I and GRD III. These two are better for black and white than the II, but the II is still no slouch! You will love it.

The handling of the GRD family is the same, GX is different enough in bug me. I have a GX100 because the size, reasonable quality of the lens and the handling is close enough to not completely piss me off.

While the GRD III is a step forward in many ways (e.g. fast glass) I think you went with the best solution. Pick up a Black Metal CV 28 Bright Line Viewfinder, put her on top and you will be amazed.

The II is a GREAT CAMERA and you will love it. Pick up an extra battery.
