Ricoh GRD IV as a 2nd camera?

Hi all

I'm sorely tempted by a new IV for sale locally as a 2nd camera to my main camera...maybe, it's a GAS attack and I'm losing the battle.

I'm looking for a 2nd camera to take my passion for street photography to 7 days. Currently only weekends. I'm after something pocketable to take along to work.

Does anyone have any experience with a IV as a 2nd camera, and your thoughts?

Agreed, it's a great camera. I mostly shoot film but carry this as my digital option. The camera is really fun to use and the quality of the images is fantastic. With the GRD V out now, the price on the IV has come down. It's definitely worth owning.
 
Yes, act now! (and probably resign yourself to seeking further GR options (digi/film) in the future as you find out how perfectly the form & function are integrated. -->Speaking as an ex-owner of GR1, GRDIII/IV, now onto the GR....)
 
I bought the GRD IV as my "always with me" camera. It's perfect for that as it easily slips into your jeans pocket. I have the optical GV-2 finder with it, but use it only rarely. I'm surprised at the quality from such a small sensor. So yeah, get it!
 
I used my GRD2 and GRD3 as a second camera on trips to Paris, Buenos Aires and Haiti. My first camera at the time was the R-D1. I was in group exhibitions after the Paris and Haiti trips, and most of the pictures I selected were from the Ricoh.

I also have the external finder, but my experience is pretty much like Dirk's; I mostly shoot without it.
 
I have owned many a GR, now the GR V. Get'em while you can. They are great little cameras!
 
The camera may be small, have a small sensor, require batteries, but it will jostle, push and fight its way into your 1st camera. It will not be bullied into being a 2nd camera.

Buy it.
 
Thanks all....I really need you guys in my corner when I tell my wife what I'm thinking of doing, I think she'll blow a gasket.

After what I dropped on my current body and lens, I promised her it would be my last body and lens.

I think I'll keep watching the gumtree ad and if its still there in a month or 2, will try to get the price down.

Or maybe someone will put me out of my misery and buy it. Its killing me seeing it still listed.

Next time you hear from me will be if I pull the pin on this baby.
 
Excellent camera! So easy to carry and use all the time. It's even small and light enough for a sturdy shirt pocket. Get your presets programmed in and you're good to go!
 
... but consider grabbing some purple loctite and giving the body screws a once-over. Both my GRDIII and IV lost a couple of screws within the first three months of ownership.
