Ricoh GRX? Video

Hmmm... I was hoping they'd put a shutter speed dial and aperture dial on this one. I think I'd rather have a GR Digital IV with a fixed wide angle and a large sensor than this.

this is pretty damn cool. I can bet that when they release prime sensor/modules in the future they will be with aps-c sensors. The smaller CCD sensors are to keep the zooms small. Pretty ingenious really.

So if I want to take advantage of new developments in sensors, I throw out all of my lenses? I really don't get it. Maybe if it were broken up into three pieces -- lens, sensor, and body, I would understand. But why would you couple something with a lot of longevity (the lens) with the component that is undergoing the most rapid development (the sensor)?

It will be so cool if Ricoh makes the module development open and provide dev kit for other manufactures. Then someone can make full frame sensor module with M mount at fraction of M9 cost! (wishful thinking, yes)

the more i think about it, the combined lens+sensor unit sounds less like extortion. if the lens+sensor unit costs less than a body with integrated sensor, come another 18 months, it could actually save you money while guaranteeing that the lens is up to the sensor's resolving power for free.

£420 body
£300 24-72mm
£600 50mm

it depends on how much the cost is divided between the two parts. any idea how much an aps-c sensor and its related electronics cost, or maybe how much the lens would have cost?

on the other hand, the cost of the sensor adds up if you buy more than one module. ricoh users already tend to be one lens, one body kind of people, so maybe it isn't much of an issue.

OK... now I'm salivating:

"There is no lens mount obviously, but on questioning Mr Kazunobu Saiki, general manager for Ricoh's global camera division, seemed to acknowledge that a sensor unit fitted with a mount receptive to M and L rangefinder lenses would be a positive addition to the system."

It would be an huge oversight if they *don't* come out with a sensor-only module (or whatever it is they call it).

I think they just bundle the lens and the sensor at the beginning so they can charge more. Probably to recover R&D cost.

I'll wait for the 28mm/1.9 with APS-C sensor module. 🙄
