Well it looks like Ricoh is going to make a micro lens equipped M mount module.
Early announcement to try to block Fuji X100 sales ?
I for one will wait to see what happens - I love my GRDIII.

Ricoh has today announced the development of a Leica lens mount unit for its GXR camera system.
Planned for release in the autumn, the GXR Lens Mount Unit will allow photographers to use Leica M-mount lenses on the GXR.
A mock-up version of the unit is due to go on show at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show in Japan from 9 February.
A spokesman for Ricoh Japan said: 'The lens mount unit is being designed to make the best use of the optical characteristics of the lenses mounted.
'It will have as its image sensor a 23.6x15.7mm (APS-C size: total pixels approx. 12.90 million) CMOS sensor, and it will feature a newly-developed focal plane shutter.

kinda makes the m9 as useless as a kardashian sister....
Agreed.. especially if you are a nun.
Lots of folks looking and asking. We will see if there are any buyers. Credit to Ricoh for listening.

The sensors on the GXR APS-C Modules seem to be very good - certainly better at High ISO than the M8 (and possibly the M9).
It also takes High-Def Video!
The GXR system is suddenly much more interesting to me than the Fuji X100...

Couldn't make an APS-H module? Mehh... I'll probably buy one regardless.

Interesting, but a whole year too late behind Sony's NEX3/5.

I don't think so. This is for people who like to play with their Leica glass. The X100 is for people who want to make photos. The two sets sometimes overlap, but are not identical.

It would be very interesting if it provided AF capability (by moving the lens mount).
but no, thinking seriously, this announcement is great news

Sony's system doesn't have a viewfinder with which you can focus Leica glass.

I'm sure it will be possible to take a photo with the GXR
Hard to make any conclusions about the X100 until it is in people's hands. IQ and focus performance are still huge questions.
We can infer a lot about the quality of the M-Mount GXR module by looking at the quality of the APS-C modules already released.
Both have a lot of promise - I'm just more interested in a system camera.

May contain traces of nut
This sounds like an interesting announcement - the GXR has the advantage that there's a half decent viewfinder for it.

While this is BS (M9 useless that is)... I have to say I am glad I have the GXR. Most of these APS-C / m4/3 cameras with M lenses do nothing for me, but the GXR is special.
What I find interesting is that it'll be the first GXR module with a focal plane shutter.

Well, for many of us the nex is a non-issue... since it is designed more for consumers than photographers. The GXR is designed for photographers.

My friend, this I told you more than one year ago and you didn't believe me.....
We discussed about the difference between a X1 and the GXR, a camera for the serious photographer......
After shooting the GRD3 for Ricoh Europe, the UI impressed me a lot and the discussions with Ricoh people gave me the impression that they would come with some impressing items. But they are small and therefore slow. There is no pressure as with Leica and it's 'short-before-ready-products.....

I'm sure that's not how it went down. I still like my X1 and use it seriously... I just like the 28mm module for the GXR too. The 28mm module didn;t exist a year ago. The X1 still has better IQ. Both are serious tools.
My point is that the Sony has too much crap buried in the menus, the X1 and GXR do not.
