Ricoh / Pentax updates Pentax Lens Coating to HD

Woooo HD!

Excited about the coatings! Better lenses.

Those look great, I read that there is some lens redesign incorporated too. I like the 'quick sift' feature. It is a hassle to switch from manual to auto focus. Rumors abound that Pentax is waiting for six months, by contract, after Sony introduces a mirrorless with FF, and then Pentax will introduce either a DLSR (K-3) or a mirrorless FF. Some fun ahead, still rumors but the FF mirrorless is suppose to be under $2000. I wonder if the new lenses have FF capability.

The older DA wide angles (15 & 21) did not cover full frame but the rest did. I have shot several of them with my Pentax PZ1p and they cover 35mm with no problem. Of course this may not be true of these new lenses but if the rumored FF Pentax has any validity at all it would make no sense not to keep that same coverage.

Too bad the new lenses aren't weatherproofed. I am wondering why Pentax even bothers to weatherproof the K-5, K-30, etc. as they have very few prime lenses that can take advantage of that feature. It doesn't help to seal all the little switches and knobs when the big hole on the front, and what is attached to it, is not sealed at all. Ahh well, I guess Pentax figures that most people don't take pictures in the rain anyway. It would at be nice to at least have a decent, weatherproofed, 35mm prime to use with the camera without having to pack around a big honking zoom.

Back to my little Leica IIIa, at least when I get that one wet it is really easy to dry it out again. :)

Pioneer, I believe that they did make a couple of waterproof lenses for the K-5 and the K-30. Another part of the rumors is that the K-3 (if it really exists) will be the size of the K-10d,20d. Too bad that can't squeeze an FF sensor into a K-5 body. Depending, on the mirrorless features, I'll probably get one.

I know that everybody hates the K-01 but it is the easiest digital camera I've ever used. I really like the aperture ring feature, then hit the green button and no fiddling with those darn knobs.
