My friend, Russ, (Kiron Kid) got me on this craze, and I'm really liking this
little camera:
some snaps from the first roll, Fuji Xtra 400:
pano mode
Reasonably wide at 30mm, macro, not, but close-focuses to 14" and has
pano mode. These shots were with flash defeated, but has spot metering
and a Super Night Mode I want to try very soon.

Can you still get these, and where? They used to be available from a Canadian clearance house for something like 30 dollars apiece. I should have bought 3 of them.
Mine needs some TLC, and has been through a lot of abuse, but still works. The lens is very sharp, somewhere behind the GR1 but still great.
No back light compensation other than flash.

Oh sure, blame it on me again. But yes, I suppose this one time, I am partially to blame. These little Ricoh P&S rigs usually have very nice and sharp lenses. I've hauled a couple of them up big walls (rock climbing) and the resulting Kodachrome 64 sldes are beautiful.

Nice shot, Russ!
FT2, as it happens, I traded with a Canadian for this cam. Was that 30 Canadian dollars? Does it matter? lol

Here are a few from a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400:
and a couple from a roll of Arista Premium 400, dev'd in HC-110B:
Thanks again, Russ, for finding this camera!

The R1 is a great little camera, turned me on to the whole Ricoh Pro line. I used one for a few years with my first son till it "Jumped to the maple flow from the top of a TV". I moved to Bessas but moved back to Ricoh with the GRD I and loving it now with a GRD III. The film GR series of cameras is a true Photographers P&S.

How is VF on this camera?
Ricoh is quite a company, I agree, and they did and do make great cameras. When I will get digital, I'll look at Ricoh

B2, agree completely about the GR series, both film and digital. I hope to
land a GR1 one of these days, well, a Hexar AF wouldn't hurt my feelings
either, and love the work I've seen with the Ricoh GRD series.
BTGC, VF is nice and bright, and close-focusing has a shaded area that
you want to use when shooting close-ups, very handy.
