Righty or Lefty?

I'm right footed, ambidextrous to a degree, use either or eye when firing a gun, though right dominant, and use right eye or both (1:1 vf) when taking pictures. Have tried left eye, and it works a treat, but anatomically unfavourable on most cameras, don't like squishing my nose against the back plate.

First, I am strongly right eye dominant. To the point that I did not even realize certain problems I was having with my left eye were occurring at all. Both of my eyes have pretty strong astigmatisms.

Vision problems are part of the reason that I love rangefinder cameras. (If you cant tell when a piece of paper is in focus, you certainly can't focus on a matte screen).

Left eyed for me: my right is good for movement and not good for any fine detail. Been like that and have worn glasses since I was 4.
Right handed except for shooting long guns--rifles or shotguns--and only shoot handguns right handed because the controls are mostly oriented for rightys.

Left handed and am an exclusive left eye shooter.
Play golf right, racquet sports left, bat left in baseball, shoot right when playing hockey as a skater and play left as a goaltender.
Am ambidexterous to a large degree, and can spontaneously mirror-write a la Leonaro Da Vinci.

Left. Although my dominant eye according to Dick Santee is my right (nice quote by the way arseniii, I never knew that). Even with the 1:1 VF I still feel it necessary to close my other eye.

right eyed for sure, and left handed. i keep both eyes open, but i'm not sure i get much info from my left eye when i'm looking at the viewfinder.

I don´t walk alone!!

I don´t walk alone!!

I thought I was among the chosen few who keep messing up the screen of their digitals with their noses.:bang:

I have no choice; the right ogler is only there for tentative support. Maybe someone will construct a left-eyed RF camera someday? I mean; they make special cars for the crazyness of driving on the wrong (left) side of the road - so; why not? :D

Left eye dominant, cannot read more than a few words with the right even though the acuity is good. Glasses since 6 months. Ineffective patching of the left eye around age 6 and 7. I was a left eye shooter until I got a 35mm lens. With the 0.72 M6 and M2 finder I needed to get closer so switched to the right eye in my late 30s. Can't now remember the difficulty switching - couldn't have been great. Right eye shooting is the most logical with the Leica. I do use the left for vertical shots with the shutter button down low. Now I am using an OM2n for the first time and I cannot decide which eye to shoot with and cannot actually remember what I do as I sit here and write this.

Right eye for me; I don't think I realized how many left-eyed shooters are out there 'til I read the thread this morning. Left handed, clumsy footed otherwise.

I use both eyes - whichever works better in a given situation: Right eye with my RF, and with my DSLR most of the time. Sometimes left with my DSLR, to rest the camera on my left shoulder for low-light, slow shutter speed shots. And sometimes I shoot my RF from the hip (but not blindly).

I acquired being ambidextrous when I learnt to play the violin as a kid.

Interesting. According to references in wikipedia 2/3 of the population (? which population) are right eyed. The rangefinder poll would pobably indicate a strong effect towards left-eyedness.

Interesting. I always thought the righties were in the majority but it looks about even. I'm a left eye shooter, one of the reasons I love my Rapidwinders!

Could it be, that it is 'aquired left eyedness'? Most of the rangefinder cameras have their viewfinder on the left side when viewed from the back.

Voted right eye as that is most used...although I am ambidextrous.

I can only do two things with my right hand that I can't with my left...and one of them is writing.

I used my right eye in the past but due to an injury, I cannot see out of it very well. So now I use my left eye.

i am left-handed but right-eye dominant. i throw left, but bat right, trip shutters and shoot long-guns right-handed. so my trigger finger is my right forefinger, whether it is on a shutter button or a model 12 winchester trigger. but i shoot handguns left-handed, and i cast left-handed, and reel with my right hand. i swing an axe from the left or right, but hammer only with the left, and i am left footed. i can shoot a rifle from either side, but am more comfortable on the right. and i can shoot my 35s left-eyed if need be. aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Hi, I'm new here. Interesting post. I'm a lefty and left eye dominant but am surprised that there are so many lefties/left eye users considering most people (over 80-85%) are right-handed. Curious if anyone can tell me if Oscar Barnack is left or right eye dominant? I'm wondering how the viewfinder evolved to the left side of the Leica rangefinders? If you look at the Ur-Leica, the viewfinder sits on top slightly to the right of the lens.
