Once again, I'm reminded why I like this lens so. Taken yesterday through the window of an interesting little shop that services and sells old manual typewriters. Amazingly, they do quite a business. Of course, maybe I shouldn't be so surprised considering I'm shooting with an old manual camera...

Can't the infinity lock be removed?

Thanks for the nice comments on the shot.

And yeah, I think the infinity lock can be removed since it looks like it's just held on by a screw through the other side which is easily accessible when the lens is unmounted. But I do not want to remove mine because I like using the infinity lock knob (or whatever its properly called) as a focusing tab/knob.

So, get a DR Same lens, different mount (and no infinity lock).

(The answer to that suggestion might be that the narrower focusing ring on the otherwise identical DR isn't a fair trade for getting rid of the infinity lock...)

I love my DR, but I miss the focusing tab (from my collapsible). That's a beautiful picture, and you're right. Great optic!

i just love the character of an old Typewriter...so much more there, there...kind of like holding a cloth bound book and reading, rather than squinting at an LCD panel, or developing a roll of film instead of plugging in the SD card, or instead of texting the person across the room on the cellphone, just yelling

Yeah, I keep peering through the window at all the different models they have in that store. Some amazingly large and some surprisingly small. And they all intrigue me. I keep wanting to go in and buy one. I doubt I would actually use one, but they entice me nonetheless. Guess I just appreciate them like I do my various mechanical cameras and watch (although I do use my cameras and wear my watch).

Wait, Peter, how different can the Rigid be from the DR (w/o goggles)? (I should get up and look up the answer...but it's late...) Both are in chromed brass mounts...should be similar in weight?

Rigid is 285gm, DR is 400gm. The difference is almost certainly the plate for the goggles.

I found Rigid to be a very good lens, with lots of character. Inf lock and long focus throw were bothering me enough, however, for me to sell it. Yet, when I look at some pics I took with it - I miss it. Here is example of one of them:

I have a rigid that I like a lot, makes beautiful pictures but I'm going to sell it. I'm not using it mainly because of the infinity lock. A pity really because I had DAG give the lens a CLA and it's perfect but the infinity lock drives me nuts and I'm not going to remove it.

Beautiful shot and beautiful woman, Krosya. And with the laptop, it's not a bad counterpoint to my typewriter shot!

Peter, don't do it. You will regret it... Why not just remove the infinity lock by removing the little screw? That's easily returned to original state if you should later ever want/need to.
