Ringflash

Is anyone out there a user or owner of a big powerful ring flash, the sort beloved of fashion photographers (not the little ones used for macro work) such as the elinchrom 3KJ ring or the excellent Profoto ones?

If so, do you have any tips for avoiding red eye? Is it just a question of keeping the subject pretty close?

Any tips gratefully received.
