Ritz Cameras reorganizing

Figure I heard last month was $24Mil owed to Nikon. I have no idea how Nikon can take that hit, if they have to absorb it, though gossip said it had something to do with a 20% rise in prices?

I also heard Ritz was disposing of a lot of leases through this, but you hear a lot.

I have dealt with the same "real" camera store for a long time, they are making some changes I do no like, closing down E6, no processing on Saturday, but I can hardly complain as I am not paying their bills.

The current manager's grandfather and my dad were best friends a very long time ago.

When they close, there will not be much left locally.

Regards, John

I almost never shop at Ritz. The business model is not to my taste. Kind of like a Hallmark store for camera equipment. However, I figured that I would see if I could pick up the lens I have been thinking about for my DSLR. I stopped by one of the stores closing here in the Phoenix area. They did not have the lens in stock and said that it had not been in stock for a long time. They went on to tout the great savings that they were offering because the store was closing. The "great" savings were up to 20% off of selected (read useless) items. I called 3 other stores and got the same answer that the lens hadn't been in stock for a long time. I do have to give the staff props for being polite.

This experience reinforced my impressions of Ritz Camera. They never seem to have anything that I need and the prices on what they do have are too high. I wonder if others feel the same? If I was trying to buy a first camera, it may have been a different case.

The funny thing about Ritz is the are the only place I find Ilford XP2 with any consistency. Other than that, I'd rather shop the local chain and have them order some XP2 when I need it.
