My dear comrades,

I wanted to announce that the database interface is being developed right now, under PHP/MySQL. I'm testing functions and trying to make it run clean, then I will add the following functions :

- show more information (owner names will remain hidden)
- make sorting/filtering available
- possibility to show a particular lens info, including pictures and owner comment (through pop-up window)
- more stuff to think about ... :D

Here's a couple little screencaps! The 2nd one shows smaller factory logos, note that this is all experimental, I might end up placing the factory symbol near the lens name... :)

Cheers,
Max

if u need nice design for a page, a lot of free designs u can find here
http://www.oswd.org/
its easier than to lose time making ur own design.
:D

Thanks! Though for this project, I will probably go on my own design ;) I've bookmarked that site, it could be useful for other projects, or for friends as well :)

Did you find any interesting Kiev? :D

nope. no kievs. at least not some old kiev that could interest u. next weekend there is small photo market here so ill check that out. also on april 9th we have big photo market so ill look there also.
;)

NEW UPDATE : Version 0.2 Alpha (WORK IN PROGRESS)

CAN BE CHECKED HERE

http://www.carthago-ltd.com/rldb/tab.php

To Do List :
--------------

- Add filtering / sorting options
- Improve speed
- Make the table more readable
- Generate lens thumbnails "on the fly"
- Improve the logos sharpness
- Use of color squares to indicate the coating color(s)
- Use of color squares to indicate the body (probably a symbol showing a black, zebra or chrome lens barrel)
- Detailed "technical information" pop-up for each lens
- Possibility to select two lenses and compare them side by side
- more stuff probably...

Cheers! :D

Max, this is a major work you have taken on here. Everyone should be excited by this amazing database effort you have undertaken.

very very nice. i like it. if u need to improve speed just separate table on more pages. dont put everything on one page.
:D

Thanks to all of you, it's very encouraging!! :D
Right now the test page loads all the elements, I'll have to work on a pre-selection / filtering page :)

Hi Max,

just had a look, and makes for quite an interesting list. Big round of applause!!

Just one question though; I see the FED-50's listed as 3.5-18 aperture, but mine (nr. 9752) only goes to f16. Is that 18 a typo, or do they come in different max apertures?

Max, if you need any technical help, e-mail or PM me. I do this stuff for a living. It's been a long time since I have used PHP. I have been programming web apps in java for the last 6 years, but I may be able to get you "over the hump" when something gets hairy.
