There's only one image in the catalog I want, and I want it bad. I can make the estimates but those will be eclipsed with the first bid, like a tech start-up IPO in the flush days. Oh well...

Earlier this year I stumbled into an EBAY auction, got outbided, but later won the Ti IBIS Mountain Trials that I later learned is likely a one-off through some "Second Chance Offer." It was not just being lucky once and it was an example where a string of events had to happen perfectly. I only discovered the auction when I was bored at work and went to EBAY and purposely searched for an improbable remote possibility and then I found my Holy Grail. I happen to own a steel version of this historical mountain bike that I bought back in 1989. I had always wanted a lighter titanium version because for me it would be the ultimate racing bike that fit my style, and somehow my dream eventually came true.

A second miracle happened earlier this year when I bought a working 9 year old Epson 7800 24 inch printer for $100.00 because the owner was moving back to Japan and simply had to get rid of the printer. I was in the right place at the right time, and it seems that over the past 9 years this 7800 only made 1802 prints before I bought it. Basically it is a fresh printer that was barely used, but used enough to have not have maintenance issues. This will never happen again. Understand that getting this larger printer than my 3880 is very timely because I actually need it.

Lot 21, "BEAUFORT, S. CAROLINA. $62,500.00.

I stayed away for a reason. Hard to say how bad the buyer wanted it; the price could have been much higher for this apparently minor image. Might have wrecked the family. That, or take up residence on the sofa. For years... 😀

Divine intervention took place today on my way to work. I was walking along, minding my own business, when I found one of those hospital tables they use for bed ridden patients on the curb being thrown out. Of course I took it with me to work (I work in a research lab/hospital behind Sotheby's).

I used USP grade alcohol to clean and sanitize my treasure that was dusty, and used gauze to give it a good scrubbing. Just what I need for my print studio that I'm setting up because I can add a larger table top (24x36, current top is 18x30) to make it a wheeled desk, or I can use it for my 3880 printer as a printer cart as is to make my seated desk larger. I favor the rolling desk because it offers an additional drying area and because the top articulates so that it can be made into a large easel.

I'm not really spiritual, but I have more than my fair share of good luck that somehow is beyond coincidence because a string of good things has to happen perfectly.

Anyways things like the above seem to happen to me all the time...

That's great! A person can come across all sorts of things just by keeping their eyes peeled, something that is normal for a photographer. But, yes, I have often had a bit of luck after I thought something had slipped away. Can't explain it. Maybe I dipped my toes in a different part of the multiverse. In any case if you're behind Sothebys keep any eye on their tip and if you find a copy of "Beaufort, S. Carolina" in there at least PM me first . One truly does never know. 😀

Will do. Like you say, "One truely never knows."

I collect guitars. There is a story about someone finding a DeAngelico (master archtop builder who only made around 1100 guitars in his lifetime) in the garbage. This is comparable to finding a Stradivarious in the garbage.

Tonight I will smuggle my hospital table out of work and smuggle it into my apartment. Don't tell "Maggie." LOL.

BTW I did find a Leitz tripod on Broadway very near the now closed Leica gallery. It cleaned up nice and I gave it away at one of our annual Beauty Contests.
