Rodinal and EI on Tri-X 400

David: Large areas of open sky on Tri-X present problems for just about any dilute developer, in my experience. While I am not a fine grain freak by any means, if I am photographing a scene with prominent/important areas of sky or even tone surfaces, I prefer going all the way to something like Pan F+

Even with a fine grain film, 35mm is really inadequate to the task for me. TMX on 4x5 (or larger!) is the way to go. 😀

No argument about size. Negative size makes all the difference in the world.

I usually take pictures either in the evening or indoors so I rate my TX400 @ EI 800.
My preferred Rodinal combination is 1:100 (actually it's 6:500, for keeping 3ml-per-roll rule):
- 30min @ 20°C.
- 3min pre-soak (basically, to cool the tank. It's pretty hot over here).
- 1min first agitation.
- 6 slow inversions every minute thereafter.

M6TTL, M-Hexanon 28mm f/2.8.

I haven't checked this thread for a while. Thats a stunning landscape photo - I love the detail in the clouds.
