I have only used Ilford Perceptol in the last thirty years for my BW films. I had never heard of Rodinal until I started looking on here.
I just tried looking for a retailer because I want to try some. Where do you lads get it from.
Cheers,
James.

Try Freestyle Photo (http://www.freestylephoto.biz/). There was some crazy dustup over the name "Rodinol", which is NOT being produced in its original formula. Freestyle sells a product called [EDIT: "Adox Adonal"] [Originally misstated the brand name] which is essentially a Rodinol copy. It works fine and has the same working properties as Rodinal. Here is an image on Neopan 400 developed in the stuff at 1:100 dilution with one-hour stand development (one inversion at one half hour)

Digital Truth is where I get mine. They're connected with Freestyle in some way as sometimes the boxes come from Freestyle. But very nice folks who are quite responsive to questions.

WOW, I am used to a dilution of 1/1 what are you using to get your 1/50 and 1/100 ratios. I remember getting something that Ansel Adams used back in the 70's, had a hell of a job finding it in England, then when it arrived, I nearly had a cow when I saw the dilution ratio, it was as thick as North Sea oil. I just could not get the stuff to go up a syringe, ended up chucking it.
I do three rolls of 120 at a time, so that works out at 1500 ML, so what do you lads use for an accurate dilution ratio.
Cheers,
James

Rodinal is an old formula -- well over 100 years old and it can produce very sharp, very grainy results. It is not your father's D-76 or HC-110, if you know what I mean. Some folks use it like a normal developer at a dilution of (1+25) with an ordinary agitation routine (e.g. 1 tank inversion every 30 seconds). My own recent experiments have involved stand development -- essentially letting the developer work itself out over a long period of time. The benefits of this method are that it is less temperature dependent, and different films of different speeds can be mixed in development. Dilution for this is 1+100 and develop for an hour with minimal agitation (1 inversion at 30 minutes). You will have to sacrifice a couple of rolls of film to the developer-testing gods to figure out what works for you.

I use 10ml syringes...I found them at a decent Electronics store...
These are what I use...

I can use them for several months then toss em...

...
Freestyle sells a product called "Adox Atomol" which is essentially a Rodinol copy. It works fine and has the same working properties as Rodinal.
...
I think you mean Adox Adonal.
Adox Atomal is a ultra fine grain developer (former Agfa Atomal or Orwo/Calbe A49)
