I've probably looked at 10 different Rollei 35's, and I've yet to find one where the viewfinder frameline isn't degraded, faded, or partially so. This includes several different models, Germany, Singapore, etc, including several 35 S's

I think the viewfinder is a sealed unit. It's been a while since I took one apart, but I think it is, which means that you have to replace the entire viewfinder and not just one component.
My experience has been the opposite of yours. Of the Rollei 35 models that I've encountered, just one (of about a dozen or so) had a degraded viewfinder.

Ditto. My (original German) camera has a very bright, complete frameline. I used to have another (Singapore) which was also fine.
Despite the large number you've seen which are otherwise, I suspect you've just been very unlucky. Persevere...
