Rollei 35 - one year

It would be helpful to know what model you own!
Generally.
After inserting the battery you have to change aperture and speed until the two needles in the little window in the top of the camera are in the same position.

I'm pretty sure you are talking of the two trim pots to adjust the meter and which are under the top cover.

So : the pot on the rear of the camera is for low light ; the pot on the side of the camera is for bright light.

By carefully trimming the two pots clockwise you can very easily adjust the meter so that it takes 1.5V 625U batteries and gives an excellent response through the entire EV range. By doing this you get rid of the now impossible to find 625PX 1.35V batteries problem.

For testing your adjustments you need to put the top cover back in place.

Tip : try to write in a reasonably correct and easy to understand English, and you'll get more help down here. As for myself, I'm no native English speaker for instance.

Thanks for that Nicolas! I was wondering which was which 🙂

I would also add that because the pots are quite fragile and old and thus prone to failing (information I heard from a Rollei 35 specialist), its probably a good idea to adjust the pots in small increments.

Yes they are. Actually they get brittle over time and quite often, a totally dead meter is due to these pots having become dry and more than dead themselves. The same with a meter showing a jumping needle.

I do confirm that only a few angles increment adjusting is necessary. Basically you need to see the white needle position being changed for very little in either low light or bright light so that your meter is adjusted for 1.5V batteries.

Identical trim pots are easy to find in any electronics shop, like Radio Shack or so. I have bought some on eBay myself. A few $ will buy you 30 pots - enough to fix your whole Rollei 35 collection, Jon ! 😉

Replacing them is very easy, you just need a soldering iron, and new wires (recommended).
 
I have got my issue of your book, albeit a digital version as I am in Costa Rica!

My Rollei 35S didn't last for a year, it was deemed un-repairable by Krimar Photoshop. He discovered at least three issues pinpointing to unseen maladies:

1. A screw cut inside the lens, he can fix this,
2. The shutter mechanism is "all wrong", he has no parts for this,
3. A plastic part that comes with the camera that is damaged,

So my favorite R35S is on its way to Mr. Fleenor in CA for a second and last opinion.

She has covered more miles in the USA than myself!
 
I´m moving my Rollei 35 blog to tumblr!
The project is still alive, the roll count is at 325!
I shot with two Rollei 35 in my holidays this year, a 35S for BW and a 35 (Tessar) for CN.

So it´s five years today that I started my Rollei 35/Polypan F project.
The goal of using the Rollei exclusively for one year wasn´t reached, but the Rollei is still the camera to calm my mind whenever I struggle with gear. So forward to the next five years! Unfortunately the Polypan F seems to have disappeared from the scene, but I´m sure I´ll find another film;-)

The quirkyness of the Rollei´s controls is a myth that wanders through the photo forums since 100 B.C.! I hoped that would lower the prices, but nope;-)

Jokes aside, sometimes I try to advance the film with my left hand when using another camera; it feels weird when there is no lever!
 
Requin, I´m using the rest of my last Polypan purchase from years ago. The main german distributor, lumiere-shop, told me that they will not get any more Polypan F. Searching the web brought only respooled and overpriced short rolls or cartridges.
I have ca. 30 rolls until the end. There are other film brands out there, but if this is really the end of Polypan, this won´t be easy for me.
