Rollei 35 S Overhaul in Tri-State Area

Hi Folks! I would like a recommendation for a willing tech to overhaul my Rollei 35 S in the Tri-State area other than Krimar Photoshop.

Can you recommend one or two technicians with experience. I can even surrender another Rollei 35 S for parts.

My Rollei is currently in New Jersey with a friend. So far I have suggested Nippon Photoclinic Service as another possibility.

The chaps at Pro-Camera Repair in California want to see it. However, before it makes the trip to California i wanted to exploit all possibilities within the Eastern Seaboard.

I've had good luck w/KEH. They're eastern, just not north eastern.

Harry Fleenor above fixed a Rollei 35 of mine six or seven years ago. It was gone around three months before I got it back which was expected based on what I'd researched. Top notch work however, reasonable priced, and pretty good communication. I'd recommend him too.

Well Chaps it is Harry Fleenor my last recourse, my Rollei will cover more miles than what I did whilst in the USA!

You won't regret it. Harry Fleenor and his shop is without a doubt the best Rollei service in the USA.

He's overhauled three of my Rollei 35s (ca 1969-1974 production) and a Rolleiflex (ca 1951 production) for me over the years. While I don't have any of them anymore, their current owners (a decade or more on) are all friends of mine and regularly report that the cameras continue to work flawlessly.

Not bad for half-century old cameras ... 🙂

In my case it was something that was bent while pulling the lens in and out, and wouldn't allow the lenst to twist and lock in the out position. I think it cost maybe $100-$125.

What's your reason for not using Krikor? He works on the Rollei 35s.

all nippon is here in NYC and they know their stuff.
Harry fixed my 2.8E so it works very nicely, i would use him again, but its not cheap.

He said that my camera was beyond repair. I didn't understand clearly why but he mentioned three issues: a broken screw inside the lens (he said I can repair), "the shutter mechanism is all wrong" despite the fact that the camera made technically perfect pictures before, and on a third call he revealed that there was a broken plastic part inside, despite the fact that the camera didn't make any noise. He said that he didn't have parts for the camera.

On a final call I said that I could supply a camera for parts and he said that it had to be the same camera, which I didn't understand. And I said it is the same camera, and then he stated that the camera was not repairable. Now the source for the used Rollei 35S with an operating shutter has become silent. I thought of merging the two cameras as another possibility!

So I decided to ship to CA to Mr. Fleenor the other mentioned expert, and have him appraise the issues.

Harry said over the mail that a typical R35S shutter overhaul was $125 and that the lead time after he approved the repair was 6 weeks. So I am duly warned and the camera is probably making its way to CA.

G I hope he can fix mine. It cost me a year ago $179 and I used it almost daily for that time. A used one on eBay is US$400 and we cannot tell if it has hidden issues, like the broken lens screw of mine, perhaps from a nasty fall masked by replacing a top plate. Who knows. I am almost half a century and my shutter is fine!
I wish I had access to a place such as Portobello Road in England to find Rollei's...

To give closure to this thread I have to report that my camera was taken by Mr. Fleenor for: "Overhaul shutter & clean, lube, & adjust body mechanism $124.00 & calibrate meter to 1.5V" So there it is, my Rollei will be ready for action in 6 weeks! And I think it makes all the economic sense in the world!
