I have a Rollei 35S (Singapore) - the shutter release requires some effort to push, and the shutter makes a hard and loud "snap". Compared to a Leica or Rollei TLR, it's really loud. Is this normal for this model?

I use to own the 35SE and I also found the shutter release rather stiff requiring a bit more force than most other cameras I've used. The sound I can't swear to compared to the Leica, but I think the SE had a higher pitch and less muffled sound making it seem louder. The Rolleiflex TLR is renowned to have one of the quietest shutters made. The quietest and lightest touch shutter however probably goes to the Olympus XA .

I think your camera needs servicing or lubing . . .
Mine doesn't require any effort to push.
Shutter is a small audible snap sound.

I definately can't call it loud . . . much less than a Bessa R2.
About the same as my Zeiss Ikon.

Sounds like a quick snick.

My Rollei 35S fires quietly. Sounds the same as my Rolleicord.

As Manfred said, your camera may be in need of servicing. And it may not be the shutter you're hearing, but rather the linkages which connect the shutter button to the shutter itself.
