rollei 40/2.8 sonnar, who owns one?

I got mine from Robert White a couple of years ago but sold it around the time I sold my CLE. B&H and Adorama use to sell them new. I assume if you can't find one new they should be available on the used market.

I got mine with my 35RF set.

Saw one black one on sale at Hong Kong Internet Contax Club Forum a while ago but the thread no more there.

If u are not in a hurry occasionally one will pop up in ebay USA.

The Rollei Sonnar is a nice lens with nice character--I've used one version or other for years. It has a little more saturation than the CV 40mm and perhaps a longer tonal scale. It's somewhat less razor sharp at its widest openings. The Sonnar's bokeh is much better than the CV's, but not overly romantic. It's a kind of quiet classic.

Sorry you're having a tough time finding the lens. I think the 40/2 Summicron or CLE Rokkor would be a better buy for the same or less money as owners on this forum rave about it. At the same stops performance should be close or possibly a hair better on the 40/2. The big advantage of the Sonnar is that it fits LTM and is slightly less flare prone.

i'd be happy with most 40mm lenses i would think. the sonnar images have a nice quality about them though.

the cv 40/1.4 sounds good too. it would be a fast lens for me (now i only have one, the zm 50/1.5) and as i shoot only b&w, the single coat version sounds interesting.
i'm likely sending the cle into cq for a cle and might order the 40/1.4 at the same time so they can travel home together.
